Let's talk about the Steelers...

Here we go, one of the games we circled this year.... although I don't think anyone expected us to be headed back home for this one at 5-0, or for Pittsburgh to be 3-2.

We know the story. They had our number in 2016 with two crushing losses. A lot has changed in 9 months, though....

For one, quarterback play. Alex Smith 2.0 is legitimately playing like the best QB in the NFL right now. Ben Roethlisberger, coming off of a 5 interception performance, looks like one of the worst. He also showed his dramatic nature yesterday when he questioned if he had what it takes anymore toward the media.

Pittsburgh currently has the 28th ranked run defense in the NFL, and Kareem Hunt is playing like the NFL's best RB. Seems like a good recipe for us, especially since Mitch Morse and/or LDT should be back for Sunday. I would guess only Morse. Le'Veon Bell is not playing up to his normal standards thus far, as he has only looked dominant in one game. However, this looks like a tough matchup for us there, as we are the 20th ranked run defense and coming off of a bad performance Sunday night in that regard. Both offensive lines are solid groups, although Pittsburgh's has not been as dominant as they were last year.

Pittsburgh has the #1 ranked pass defense right now. Part of that likely stems from their quality of opponents so far. However, we are going to need Kelce Sunday. If the Chiefs have their three-headed monster against Pittsburgh, they are going to be able to put up points. I think they would against about anyone, if Smith is given serviceable pass protection.

Our pass defense is struggling statistically, although anyone who watched last night could tell you that they were almost always in position to make plays on the back end. The Houston receivers always made the play, though, unfortunately. The Chiefs could really use the boost of Dee Ford and Tamba Hali to help bring pressure off of both edges consistently. I think we will probably see Dee this week, but who knows. The great thing about being 5-0 right now is they still have a lot of room to improve. The defense is no where near as good as they can be. Hopefully they hit stride down the stretch in Dec/Jan when the temps drop down.

Predictions are highly dependent on injuries, but because of all of the drama in Pittsburgh right now and KC being at home-- I am taking KC.

Chiefs 30, Steelers 24

I don't think cheap little emotional thrills are getting either of these teams over the hump.

The Chiefs and the Steelers both are battle-hardened teams with tons of big game experience, tons of leadership and two of the most experienced coaches in the NFL.

Both teams are going to get way the hell up for this game, no question. Absolutely no question.

We're not going to beat the Steelers by being more "pumped" than them, nor they us.

It's going to be a grind for 60 minutes, and the team who perseveres and outlasts the other will win.

I don't expect our D to make them look anywhere nearrrr as bad as Jacksonville did, but I think we have a MUCH better chance of winning than we did last year based on our offense.

That's assuming Kelce plays. If he's out it could be a long day.

You seem so positioned "just in case" it's sad.

And once we **** this team in the face you'll say "but until Denver..."

Denver rookie QB John Elway, on Jack Lambert, after Lambert and the Steelers knocked Elway out of his first game as a pro (1983).

Todd Haley gets thrown under the bus by Pittsburgh TE, Jesse James.

“I think defenses have had good game plans for us,” tight end Jesse James said after the 30-9 loss, via Jeremy Fowler of ESPN.com. “Jacksonville did a good job [on Sunday] taking away crossing routes, which we’ve been using the past couple of weeks. Obviously, they game-planned for that, hanging in the flat there, keeping an eye on us coming across. . . . I think we will just hopefully be a little less predictable, get more game-plan stuff in.”

Nope.

We pushed Denver off the rock. We're bigger than them, we're more talented than them, we're stronger and more athletic and better coached than them. Denver will be a fight, but it's ours to lose.

This is the game that really shows we have the elite "it" factor and that New England wasn't a fluke. This is a team that's had our number, that is very well coached and has Hall of Fame intangibles on their offense and a nasty streak on defense.

This is it. If we win this sucker, I'm printing Super Bowl tickets (barring tragic injuries) because this team will be in the catbirdseat for HFA and assuming we can knock off Pitt, I don't think there's anybody in the AFC that can stop us.

I'm only reticent because this is a team with Hall of Fame talent that has had a competitive edge on us.

Everybody wants Pitt to win. The NFL. The media. Every idiot across the continent with a yellow towel.

If we are the new hoss of the AFC, than this is the game we HAVE to win.

I believe we have what it takes. My only concern is that I believe Pitt has what it takes, too.

Just heard the audio of Rothlisberger and Tomlin talking about how Ben is one of the greatest ever and still has it. Seriously, Ben sounds like he's doing a bad Stuart Smalley impersonation.

They are mentally screwed.

Here's something that caught my eye reading the summary before the Texans game.

Quote:
Now that I have you locked in, it is worth noting that the Chiefs defense is allowing an 82.1 percent completion rate on play-action passes and the play-fake has been Deshaun Watson’s go to move;
I figure Todd Haley will be looking to exploit this.

Pitt has the #1 pass Defense. We're gonna take them down a notch. This year we're different thanks to Pat Mahommes. The most valuable player to never take the field.

Remember last year the Steelers absolutely embarrassed themselves the week before they played us and struggling as well, then shoved our manure right back into our arses and got back on track.

This is why I don't give much credence to all this Big Ben, AB, and poor play drama hype. They use and abuse the Chiefs every year to get back on track it seems.

Key to continued winning is Smith. His play has gone to a new level most QBs have never been to. We will kick their ass if Smith plays the way he’s been playing.

Hitting Bell and Ben may help as well.

True.. but I think the chiefs would have steamrolled teams even better, and still might.. as time goes along. If the key guys stay healthy, we establish a pass rush opposite of 50Houston again.. and keep the penalties down... this team has the potential to destroy its way through to a SB trophy. Think about some of these wins despite the 100+ penalty yards.. the loss of starting OL... and Andy easing off for peculiar reasons.

Could be just the booze though, I dunno. Could be by January, this team crushes anyone in their path.
