On my way home

So today on my way home, i turn onto my street like any other normal day. One thing i've noticed over the last couple years is the dynamic of my neighborhood is changing a little bit. As i turn onto the street, i see a pickup truck stopped in the middle of the road (one way street with parking on both sides). As i stop about 10 feet behind the truck i notice a commotion to the right and see two pit bulls locked in a battle. A couple kids are kicking at the dogs trying to break them up. A couple are rushing around on the phone trying to call the police and animal control. I see someone approach the dogs with some kind of stick and start wailing on them a few times.

Nothing is phasing the dogs of course and i also notice a couple people just casually lounging on the step to the right of the ruckus. I didn't really think of it till now, but everyone involved up to this point is female. No guys around.

All this happened really quick, yet it seemed to go on for a long time. I'm watching the dogs and wincing a bit because i'm waiting for one of them to rip the other apart because they seem to have each other, at least partially, by the mouth.

Just then, to my left, i notice an older white man walk by my car with a gun in his hand. I don't recognize him but i'm thinking that he lives near there because he seems to be agitated and if you don't live there, why would you care that much?

Just to back track a little bit, i have a CCW and i had momentarily considered intervening but the entire time, it was only the dogs focused on each other. No other people were in danger. So this guy walks over to the dogs and by this time they had worked their way around the side of the truck, just out of my sight. The guy walks up, leans in, and then i hear two shots. I didn't see the dogs get hit, but they both limped away in opposite directions.

At that point, all the kids start freaking out but the adults still seem very calm. One lady up on the porch to the right even says to the guy, "thank you. i appreciate that". As the guy turns and walks back to where he came from, he says out loud, "i'm not afraid of any of you all".

Right after that, someone moves the truck blocking the street and i proceed on home, go in the house and tell my wife, don't ever ever ever let our dog out in the front without being out there with her, or better yet, don't ever let her out unless it's me taking her out. I tell her and my son the story and hear the sirens, so i walk back down there and give the police my statement.

So, how was your day, honey?

Ok. Seriously. Here comes my defense of my actions. Straight up, no bullshit. Just for you.

I'm in the suburbs. Houses close together and lots of people, especially around 6pm on a warm evening. This isn't the inner city or the ghetto or a place where you would expect to see two pit bulls fighting.

Dogs fight. Shots are fired with lots of people around, many of whom are on the phone trying to get the police there or animal control to tend to the dogs.

Once shots are fired, the police ARE going to show up. Arch, there were a LOT of cops there. About 8 cruisers.

EVERYONE was talking to the police when i walked down there. This isn't somewhere where when the cops show up, everyone yells, "i ain't see shit!". Everyone.was.talking.to.the.cops.

I, me, personally, don't know any of the people that were involved but i sat in my car, with my gun holstered in my pocket, 10 feet away from the action.

I told the police exactly what i saw without trying to assess blame on anyone. i did it because that's where i live and my family could easy have been affected by it.

After reading this story, you clearly felt some kind of way. Whether you're trying to look tough or whether you're triggered by someone "ratting someone out", it doesn't matter. Like i said, you made your point. I took the time to indulge you and explain what i did and i don't really give two flying ****s about how you really feel about it.
This is good.

We're making progress.

Admitting you're a moron, is the first step ta overcoming the problem.

1 - Ya don't get the fight ya expect, ya get the fight that happens.

2 - Then, ya deal with it.

3 - If there's a problem with shots bein fired where people are endangered, ya deal with it ASAP. You didn't do that, and accordin ta your OP, the neighbors weren't threatened and thanked the shooter.

4 - Callin the cops is fine, but limited in effect. The cops get there in time ta draw chalk outlines around people that shoulda defended themselves.

5 - Just cause you're carryin, doesn't mean ya hafta do anything. You were better off just observing, cause you're not cut out for action, and that's OK.

6 - The fact that other people were talking to the cops doesn't mean you should. In the future, if you feel the person that acted was justified, go up to them and identify yourself and offer to help if there's a problem with the authorities.

7 - From the OP, your people weren't involved or in danger, unless you want to change that narrative also.

8 - Your duty is to your people, your neighbors (assuming they deserve it), your local community and your country, if necessary (you'll notice I didn't say your government). Assisting the government in investigating and prosecuting a neighbor that acted in the best interests of the neighborhood is subverting your duty to your community.

9- How tough someone is has nothing to do with the way a person's life should be ordered.

10 - Screw with someone that has nothing to lose, and you'll see what tough is.

As always, you've refused to accept the facts and circumstances of your actions.

Which is why you are who you are, and why you are where you're at.

You'll never progress beyond your current level, and that's OK. The world needs losers, like any strata of society.

My posts aren't directed at you, but at CP readers with the capacity ta process the information imparted.

You're a lost cause, but others can profit from the concepts, or discard them as they deem fit.

Hopefully, they were at least considered.

I think a strong majority of pit owners fall into two main groups:

1. People who see the breed being "discriminated against", so they get one to thumb their nose at authority without really thinking about what it means to own one. They snuggle their dogs.

2. People who want to look tough, and they think that having a pit bull accomplishes that. They want their dogs to look aggressive.
That's a good theory though I think you're leaving out one category. People who adopt at a rescue or humane society. Usually, those dogs have had rough lives up to that point. That makes it even harder to control them.
