Do we want DeHop?

https://www.msn.com/en-us/sports/nfl...9536dcd3&ei=21

Story by Andrew Gould

The Kansas City Chiefs won the Super Bowl without a star wide receiver, but they could reportedly make an elite offense even scarier by acquiring DeAndre Hopkins.

NFL insider Benjamin Albright told PHNX Cardinals that Kansas City is the "primary suitor" for Hopkins. He doesn't know the draft compensation the Cardinals would receive, but he said it's more likely they get a second-round pick than a first.

After the 2022 season, theScore's Jordan Schultz reported that the Cardinals plan to trade Hopkins this offseason.

Arizona hired a new general manager and head coach after a disappointing four-win season, and Hopkins is set to make $19.45 million (with a $30.75 million cap hit) in 2023. The Cardinals could seek a clean slate by moving the three-time All-Pro wideout, who turns 31 in June.

Hopkins began his Cardinals career by tallying 1,407 yards and six touchdowns in 2020. However, multiple lower body injuries limited him to 10 games in 2021, and he served a six-game suspension to start the 2022 season for violating the NFL's PED policy.

Yet he remains an impact player when on the field. Hopkins totaled 474 receiving yards in six full games with quarterback Kyler Murray last season.

Now imagine what he can accomplish when catching passes from Patrick Mahomes.

The Chiefs flourished without a star replacement for Tyreek Hill, but they could still benefit by solidifying the position this offseason. JuJu Smith-Schuster is a free agent after garnering 78 catches for 933 yards on a one-year deal. The depth chart features several talented question marks in Mecole Hardman, Kadarius Toney, and Marquez Valdes-Scantling.

Adding Hopkins could be great news for Kansas City, but terrible for all opposing defenses.

Do we want a high priced prima donna?

Jacksonville is likely to be the next riser. Glad they wasted Lawrence's first year, it makes their window shorter.

We're fine. Just keep stacking good young cost controlled talent and we'll have a shot every year.

Yes it will be interesting for sure. I will enjoy watching the potential issues.

Could Andy/Pat get more out of him? No doubt. How much more and how long will that take?

And what's the deal with him not playing? He's played in less than half of the 60+ games he could've played in. just 32 games played out of more than 60 games in his four-year career. Just 15 games played in his first three seasons. Does he also have an injury issue?

His tape is pretty thin, obviously, and he flashes some nice speed, decent hands . . . which makes him a less twitchy version of Hardman?
Quick search says-

MCL, PCL, broken foot, fractured hand, and one concussion. Then some sprains and minor stuff.

There are concerns. Also why he's likely to be inexpensive enough to take a chance on. Other than the knee, everything else is pretty random and unconnected.

There is no guarantee of that. When your window is open you take it.

If the rest of the league is crumbling that’s all the more reason to load up.

When you have the edge you don’t play down to their level. Load up and guarantee that we keep winning. We are more than well positioned to do it and if you follow the patriots approach you can go through you can do it by cycling rebuilds and reloads.

We don’t have to play it safe. And while Reid and kelce and jones are here at their top level, the window has never been better.

Look at what Veach has done in the last two off-seasons. The reason he took swings on guys like Clark and HB was he had a QB on a rookie deal.

Look at recent history.

That's what to expect.

You can want whatever you want to.

The other thing is that great players aren't going to get cheaper. The price is always rising. Right this second, just in salary (we'll ignore compensation for a minute) DHop is relatively cheap as far as elite WR prices go. And he's said several times now that he's willing to be reasonable (word might've been 'flexible') as far as his next contract, fwiw.

The next guy that comes along may or may not be as flexible, but for certain he'll be more expensive two or three seasons down the road.

Guys, you're not talking me into it.

And that doesn't matter anyway, because I'm not Brett Veach.

I fundamentally disagree.

our problem areas were OT and DE, and we've gotten a leg up on OT.

You can argue if you want, but I am totally against this line of thought, it's the kind of thing you do if Mahomes was 38, not 28.

I have no idea which particular players Veach will bring in, but its pretty clear that there are two types he looks at: the youngish guys that have a specific ability and still have upside, and the older vets on the cheap with a little left in the tank.

While we're paying 23% of our cap to Mahomes, that's not likely to change.

And you're not going to convince me otherwise.

And convincing me doesn't matter anyway.
