Another element of this is that the Patriots are CONSTANTLY trading for future picks. Why? Because they knew there would be zero turnover between coaching/QB/Front office.
No one was playing for their job. They can actually plan for the future. Chiefs are in a spot that only the Rams can claim. Period. No other team has the young QB, the coach on an ice-cold seat, and a GM who isn't looking over his shoulder. No one. This is how a dynasty is built. Don't overpay for aging players. Don't put all your stock in one draft (all those contracts come due at the same time), and keep your talent young and cheap so the QB can be paid. |

He’s gone. Go root for the 49ers if you’re that upset about it. |

Furthermore Tamba Hali was not an All Pro in 2016, he was CLEARLY a declining player that they had to keep because they had no idea if Ford could play or not. He’s had 1 good season. He’s 28 years old. He has a history of back and knee injuries. He’s gone and the Chiefs didn’t have to foot the bill. They’re better off for it. |

To be fair, they signed Hali when Houston was coming off ACL repair.

I have no doubt that if you ask anyone in the organization at the time, they'll tell you that the plan with Ford was for him to replace Hali. That's why you drafted a guy who'd come through college as a pure pass-rusher with his hand on the ground; that's what Hali was doing. He was very clearly the long-term replacement for Hali. And then Houston didn't recover, we panicked and let Hali's agents rat-**** us. If Houston were healthy, they'd have let Hali walk and Ford's development curve would've been smoother. These aren't excuses for Ford's early disappointments, they're just reasons. And frankly, excuses shouldn't even be necessary for a guy who everyone knew had top 5 physical skills (I compared him to Fowler at the time and he was better than Fowler at every available measurable), but who had a lot to learn. The hell of it is that he's learned it and we traded him for a pittance.

2. Didn't think I needed to put "former" in front of All-Pro... but my post are graded for spelling and grammar, sooo.... 3. We'll see whether or not KC will be better off for it. Right now we are depending on Speaks and Kpass to replace the most productive pass rushing duo in the NFL last year... while overpaying for SS's and WR's... |

With the Mathieu contract the only thing that makes it better over what Thomas got for us is that his contract is shorter with less guaranteed money. If it doesn’t pan out we can get out quicker and with less financial repercussions for it. |

It ABSOLUTELY is evidence that neither team thought he was worth it or they would have acted.
