Disappointed in McCluster

Bla bla bla, he's a playmaker, he has two touchdowns already, whatever.

He has seven catches for 93 yards. 1/3 of that yardage came on one play. At least two of those are screen passes I believe.

That ****ing sucks.

This guy needs to be a threat as a WIDE RECEIVER. He hasnt made a single play down the field. I'm not even talking 20 yards. How about 10? How about coming off the line, putting your foot in the ground, getting open and giving Cassel a target?

I'm not willing to accept the idea that Cassel is so god awful he makes all our wide receivers look terrible.

McCluster hasn't done shit yet. And he was utter garbage in Indy.

Don't buy any of his ****ing t-shirts.

A real slot WR.

I bumped the thread to congratulate Mr. McCluster on a fine season of special teams play.

Then his fan club got real mad and had to get all uppity about his 6-yard catches.

Simmer down, chillin.

Huh?

Bowe has more catches, more yards and more TDs.

We done here?

No comparison. Zilch.
How about the correlation between those numbers and the amount of targets these two get?

Welker gets a lot of downfield targets because he plays for Peyton ****ing Manning. When Cassel was his QB, 100 of his 110 passes were thrown from 1-10 yards. The point of comparing the two isn't to say McCluster is Welker. Welker is phenomenal in the slot, whereas McCluster in the past few games has proven to be "effective." It's to call you out for the claim that slot receivers are supposed to be deep threats.

McCluster is a role player. Nobody is making him out to be any more than that. But your obsession with this first down stat and downfield throws is ridiculous. We are not a downfield offense, nor do we have a downfield QB.

There you go again with "the past few games."

I hope we get a real slot WR next year. McCluster is easily one of the least productive slot WRs in the league.

Dexter isn't really a slot receiver in the traditional sense. He is a "move" guy. A utility player.

Yeah, the past few games matter given that Alex Smith and the offensive line are playing significantly better.

It's kind of amazing that McCluster wasn't playing so much better this year, given how much you've told us Matt Cassel and Alex Smith have completely sucked.

Yes. It would appear there's no evidence to suggest McCluster is any good as an NFL WR.

he's had some gritty catches too. TD's that made a big change in the game. all said, though, I'd be fine if they had a different player next year. he's just good enough you have to replace him with some production.

The more Eric Fisher grows into his role on this team, the better Alex will be and more effective Dexter should be, as well.

If Eric is able to handle single blocks on ends and rushbackers, that frees up the tight end more and more to be out attacking the linebackers at the second level as a receiver or blocker in the run game. That's a huge thing for guys like Dexter, that are also working those underneath zones.

There is a definite correlation between Eric Fishers play and the effectiveness of guys like Dex.

I think we have a pretty balanced attack that tends to favor TEs and backs more than I'd like. I really don't think you could mention any player on our team as the "primary weapon" in the passing game.

I don't think you could do the same for the Broncos either but that doesn't make Demaryius Thomas any less of a true number one. Same with the Saints and Marques Colston.
