The "I just got back from the gym" and this is what I have eaten thread.

Okay, so there are a ton of guys in here that are working out, trying to work out, or 'thinking' about working out.

So, I figured I would start a thread. I am all about making myself accountable. The more people that I tell about working out, the more people I would let down by not going.

If you go to the gym.... then post here when you get back. If you do P90X, post here when you get done. If you ride the excercise bike.... post it here.

Anything you do to get in shape.... share with the board. I know I have gotten some great advice and feedback.

Also, post what you eat. If you post everything you eat, and you know others will be critical, you may think twice before you grab a Twinkie.

Okay, so, I went to the gym. I did five minutes on the cross climber to warm up. I stretched for about three minutes.

Then, I did three sets of squats with just 135. I did back extensions and hanging leg lifts. Three sets each. I did leg curls, calf extensions, abductor and adductor excercises as well.

On my leg day, I do very light chest exercises to work on my explosive power. I do three sets of six pushups as explosively as I can. I throw the excercise ball up like a chest pass while laying on the bench.

Then, I finished off my workout with 30 minutes on the eliptical.

As far as my diet.

Breakfast two pieces of peanut butter whole wheat toast, protein shake, and banana.

I have had another banana, two yogurts, and a handful of cashews as snacks.

I didn't have a 'lunch' per se.

Kids had sloppy joes with lean beef (as if that makes it great).... I took a baked potato, and put a serving of sloppy joe over it, with jalapenos and 2 oz's of lowfat cheddar cheese.

I have also had shotgun with water, and synthesize with water.

I won't eat again before bed.


Okay, I know putting everything down here will open me up to criticism. I know some will think that I am doing things all wrong. I appreciate any advice, but I have done a lot of reading and talking to trainers.... so, I have an idea of what I am doing.... or at least what I think I am doing.

The point of this thread, isn't to get into pissing matches about how to do things.... but rather to give ourselves a gold star for making an effort.

Try not to beat anyone down on this thread, because this is about encouragement.

Well, I am not feeling 100% today, but I am definitely going to the Gym. I am probably only going to do the major lifts, but I can't miss another day. Besides, tomorrow is a rest day and I do feel better than last night.

Did a new routine today.

KB Renegade rows: 3, 5, 7, 9, 12
KB Pushups: 5, 10, 15, 20, 25, 30
KB Front Squats: 3, 5, 7, 9, 12

All done in a circuit.

Then did a cardio circuit:
Burpees: 5, 10, 15, 20, 25
Scissor Jacks: 10, 20, 30, 40, 50

Then did about 30 minutes of ab work. Planks, side planks, reverse crunches on medicine ball, etc...

Good stuff. The trainer whose give me my workouts (for free) knows that I'm into lean muscle as well as endurance and overall fitness. So he keeps doing these reverse pyramid circuits where you start with low rep sets and build to your high rep sets. It's sort of counterintuitive and not the way I'm sued to working out, but it's the way he designs everything for me. So far it's working. Weighed in at 190 lbs at the gym today, and no telling how much flab has been replaced with lean muscle.

The only days I eat anything before going to the gym are the days I'm running long distance. It's purely for a psychological edge. Some days it works, some days it doesn't. Outside of that, I drink a protein shake after lift days and a diet energy drink on running days. Not eating has absolutely no affect on my performance at the gym. The amount and quality of sleep I get is the only real factor IMO.

I was craving a milkshake last night and didn't want to waste the calories. Drove down to Costco today and picked up some frozen fruit to go with my low fat yogurt and milk. Threw in a banana and blended it all up. Every bit as good.

I haven't had a true rest day in 17 days. Last Sunday I ran a mile and a half when I woke up around the neighborhood. I've been fine, but I'm firmly going to sit on my ass tomorrow and not do a whole lot. Recovery time is here.

Tomorrow is the beginning of my 4th week of weight training (time is just flying by) and I can positively see the results of a paltry 3 weeks of lifting weights. I'm glad I'm focusing on my biceps and triceps because that's an area that needs attention and it's easily where I'm seeing the most change.

I've put on 25 pounds of muscle (and some intentional fat) so far, and I think I'm developing an endorphin addiction. I should have started working out a long time ago.

I finally feel half decent. I went to the gym on Saturday, came home feeling poorly. Sunday I was a mess. I felt awful. I went to be at 8:00pm. I woke up yesterday and felt okay, then went to the gym last night. Still feeling okay.

I gave up my diet over the last five days on purpose. I wanted to make sure my body had all it needed to get healthy and nothing really sounded good, and I certainly didn't want to put any effort into making myself something to eat..... so, I ate like crap. I mean, ice cream, cookies, doughnuts, Chinese food, fried food, bagels in the morning..... just total crap.

I finally feel better, so starting this morning, it is back to watching what I eat and trying to stay below 1500 calories a day.

I gained two pounds over the last five days. Who knew eating like crap could lead to two pounds of muscle mass?

Workout last night went okay. I was still pretty weak, so getting going took a little while. Once I did about five sets of pull ups I started getting the pump going, and then I felt pretty good.

Today is legs/lower back/abs...... hopefully, I will be totally motivated by then.
