Josh Allen “debating” whether to get COVID-19 vaccine

The NFL will not mandate COVID-19 vaccines. Thus, it stands to reason, even with incentives offered to teams and players who are vaccinated, some players aren’t going to get a shot.

Bills quarterback Josh Allen could be one of those. In an appearance on The Ringer’s “10 Questions With Kyle Brandt” podcast, Allen said he has not had a vaccine and might not get one.

“I’m still debating that,” Allen said, via Matt Parrino of nyup.com. “I’m a big statistics and logical guy. So, if statistics show it’s the right thing for me to do, I’d do it. Again, I’d lean the other way, too, if that’s what it said. I haven’t been paying attention to it as much as maybe I should have. I’ve just been doing my thing and masking up when I’m going out and just staying close and hanging around family.”

It is unclear what statistics Allen needs to see to convince him to get a shot. The Pfizer vaccine was shown a 95 percent efficacy rate in preventing symptomatic COVID-19, just 1 percentage point more than Moderna’s. The single-dose Johnson & Johnson vaccine was shown to have a 72 percent efficacy rate in the United States in preventing symptomatic illness and an 85 percent efficacy rate in preventing the most severe disease 28 days after vaccination.

Allen, 24, made clear he’s against any kind of mandate.

“I think everybody should have that choice to do it or not to do it,” Allen said. “You get in this tricky situation now where if you do mandate that that’s kind of going against what our constitution says and the freedom to kind of express yourself one way or the other. I think we’re in a time where that’s getting a lot harder to do. Everybody should have that choice.”

However, the league expects to amend certain protocols for those who are vaccinated and for teams as a whole if certain vaccination levels are met, which will encourage (pressure?) players to get a COVID-19 shot.

I'm not some left-wing socialist nutjob, but I'm not an asshole that solely makes decisions in life over what is good for me and me alone.

Should I have the liberty to drive 100 MPH on the freeway regardless of the danger to others?

Should I have the liberty to shout "Gun" or "Fire" in a crowded movie theater?

People already have vaccine requirements in life to attend school or university. Does that infringe on your liberty?

As I said before Pfizer is already in the process of filing for full FDA approval as we speak. Not sure how long that will take, but I imagine it won't be too far off. I wonder if everyone crying about this being an experimental drug will pivot to some other complaint or move the goalposts on why they don't want to take the vaccine.

And full approval is just around the corner, Pfizer is now in the process of filing for full approval. Do you think anything will have changed if it's granted full approval in a month or two from now? Will the stamp of approval from the FDA finally make jackasses like you feel safe to take the vaccine?
With that logic then wtf is wrong with people waiting a few months for full approval for the FDA (the USA's approval)? I don't give a **** about other governments health care system which I and most Americans know nothing about.

Some people just want more reassurance and don't just blindly follow the crowd. Especially with something with such a low mortality rate based on the data and something that was overblown which we know now. Look at mortality rates on states that had harsh lockdowns vs non. Similar numbers people have an inherent mis-trust of things because of the sate of our media, and country right now.

Damn people get heated over this shit. The vaccine is available. At this point most of the at risk people have had an opportunity to get it if they choose to. Really within the next couple months all non at risk people will also have that opportunity. If someone chooses not to, it's on them. Who gives a shit if a pro athlete decides to get it or not?

I'd just make it clear from an NFL perspective that next year there will not be testing or suspended games, etc. from infection. You have an opportunity to get a vaccine now if you are worried. If not, play with the risk.

Your choice but you just said

Which is the problem with this whole thing. People are just operating off emotion and fear.

It absolutely did matter, people just didn't follow the rules. Why exactly do you think over half a million lives have been lost to Covid when many other developed countries have had a fraction of the lives lost? Japan has less than 10,000 deaths due to Covid. They have so many reasons to have been hit much worse, but they weren't. Why do you think that is?

I didn't say I was confused, I said it was weird. I'd say my LACK of confusion is what helps me see how weird it is.

The concern is that some vaccine-resistent new mutation emerges among the herd that refuses to get vaccinated, then we have to do 2020 all over again.

So far the mutations have seemingly only been towards more contagious. But they could also morph into more contagious and more deadly. Imagine a 5% mortality rate instead of .25%.

I don't get how people don't understand this. I have been vaccinated, my wife got hers this week, a lot of my friends have been vaccinated.

A lot of my friends don't want to do it and probably wont get vaccinated.

I understand why they are hesitant, it is what it is.

To be fair, a lot people never wanted to go into draconian lockdown measures with this before a vaccine and looking at the data now with states that had harsh lockdowns vs other that didn't eh kinda looking like that shit didn't matter.

Its almost like a virus is going to make it's rounds regardless.
