this CD does remind me of the pre-douchetastic Metallica. But I know the truth... they are still douchetastic.

Metallica used to be a thrash metal band. They morphed into a top forty boom-tap band. Good for their pocketbooks, but bad for their metal image. They're not metal, they're top forty poseurs. Some mulletards may think they're metal, but mulletards think AC/DC is metal too. ![]() It's funny you bring up BAD RELIGION, they did the same thing Metallica did, signing with Warner Bros, then corrected their mistake and went back to Epitaph. Their latest New Maps of Hell ranks with their older works IMO. |

The music itself is probably the best that Metallica has put out in a while, but the lyrics/vocals are terrible. Basically, I'm into each song until Hetfield starts singing...

They would have been better off with the following song list: 1. Orion II 2. The Call of Ktulu II 3. Anastesia pulling teeth II 4. Orion III 5. The Call of Ktulu III 6. Sanitarium acoustic instrumental version.

I would have to agree with 90% of what you stated. The Black album was the begining of the end. When they took on Bob "pay for play" Rock as the producer I knew it was gonna be bad. This is the same guy that ruined Motley Crue. Then when they did the S&M thing I thought that was cool as hell. Not since Load have I purchased a CD but this one I think I will be there on the 12th to get it. I have seen them 5 times since Arrowhead the summer of 88 and I have tickets to the show at Sprint center 20 yrs later for #6. I am going if for nothing else to have one night where maybe I can feel like I am 16 again. |

Okay, I just heard the album. It's got some great monster riffs. I don't have a problem with vocals, but there isn't as strong of a vocal hook on these songs that we've seen in the past. But I'm okay without strong hooks, this album flat out rocks.
I think Judas Kiss is my favorite right now, awesome riffs, intresting drum work, Kirk uses the ultra-high chromatic tap thing on this song (he does this on about three songs on this album- so I'm thinking he really likes that lick, LOL!), and the vocals/lyrics are pretty solid. Broken, Beat, and Scarred is probably the heaviest track- which I definitely like. My 2nd fav. All Nightmare Long has a great bass intro from Rob. Definitely an improvement from Newstead. It's great creepy song...for some reason it reminds me of early Sabbath. I was expecting to Hate Unforgiven 3, but it surprised me. It was pretty decent. Musically it was as related the original as part 2 was, and aside for "ForgiveN" lines it didn't really have to be a sequel. It stands on it's own as a totally new song, and I like that. The 10 minute instrumental Suicide and Redemption is there for all you like the riffs, but don't want to hear James sing, LOL! Rob has some cool bass solos on that song. He's good, not inventive really, but a good metal player. Besides the 3 you've already heard (which I like) I think the only others that you're likely to hear as singles is: Judas Kiss, Unforgiven 3 and maybe This Was Just Your Life. Metal stations might must put in the song Broken, Beat, and Scarred to show just how heavy this album is (though I think My Apocalypse already does that fairly well), but this album isn't about selling singles or making hits. It's all about kicking ass and taking names. I can't wait to see this live! I'm definitely going to buy this album Metallica is back... |

Carlota - Is your station going to play the new Vedera (KC band) CD (called "Stages") when it's released? They attended the radio stations executives conference at EPIC headquarters in New York last spring and are supposed to be getting a lot of stations support. You may not know them as they are more pop than rock but they seem to have a pretty good following in Las Vegas. They are produced by Mike Flynn / EPIC records. Just wondering. Thanks.

For a band that everyone hates, they sure do get alot of hits in their threads?
They still sell a ton of CD's for a band no one likes.

Look at Metallica as the musical equivalent of Whitlock. Even though their output is mostly crap now, it still generates discussion.

After listening to the whole album a few times, I find it to be....... pretty ****ing awesome. This is an 8/10 album, people. Good stuff. The vocals are less-than-stellar most of the time, but apart from that the album is an enjoyable, quality listen.
It reminds me of Ride the Lightning in a lot of ways. |
