If as OTW you need facts I can get them. I know there is a chance he could be the one a million guy that comes in and dominates. But let me tell you although rothesberger, flaco, and Ryan weren't dominant they had good teams. How do you know thigpen with a better d and o line couldn't do great as well.

Now I'm not saying pulling a croyle and giving him the starter position but add some competition and see what he could do. But at least give him a chance before calling him a bust.
The reason that people have reservations about Thigpen is because how horrendously he played in the Atlanta game in a Pro Set.

You can not win in this league if you are limited to the spread because your QB can't adapt to a pro style offense.

Now it isn't out of the realm of possibility that a spread QB can adjust, however the only guys to do so far are Brees and Roesthlisberger.

Sanchez and Stafford have been playing in the pro set, so they are already ahead of the curve.

It could be argued that those that feel they are the begining and end of intelligent conversation are the stupid posters. How arrogant is that?

There are all types of people here. Every single one of them have the right to post. Whether it be a young person who knows little about football. Or someone who has an ultimate knowledge of football. If you cant get along with all levels then you need to find a place where you belong. Unleashing your lack of patients and inability to translate what's going on around you is a liability to this forum. I understand that after 20,000 posts that many here forget they are in a public forum. But the fact remains you are. You should try to remember that and remember that everyone has the right to voice thier opinion or participate in conversation and perhaps even learn something from that participation. Without being attacked or jumped on because they dont share the same opinion as the self proclaimed geniuses.

For the record, this was a well thought out post.

Ok I see your point but I don't think we should give up on him I think we should get a vet qb and develop thiggy. But I know I'm in the minority of this opinion . Yes he looked awful in Atlanta but that was his first game ever he got better. Yes it was in the spread but in NY he made some throws I haven't seen since Montana was a QB. I feel the kid has something. The debate is can he become a drop back passer I don't know that answer. I have this feeling that we are gonna get a good QB coach that can teach him how. I like the debate going on. I just feel it's too soon to declare him a bust.

He's not a bust. Right now he's a solid back up that you can win some games with when your starter goes down.

If Thigpen is going to develop beyond what he is now, he needs two years working with a great QB coach to fix his bad mechanics and (hopefully) improve his accuracy. It is not guaranteed that he'll be able to make those adjustments even if given the time. The odds are kind of long. There are guys in the draft who already have good mechanics and accuracy. They are going to need some development in other areas, but you know the mechanics and accuracy are already there. There chances of success are much higher.

There is no reason you couldn't take the first rounder and continue to develop Thigpen's mechanics. You'd have two chances of developing a franchise QB then. In this scenario, Thigpen doesn't get another chance unless the first rounder busts. But if the first rounder busts, you could re-evaluate Thigpen in a few games to see if his mechanics had developed enough to invest more time in. If not you have to go back to the draft and try again.

There is no magic formula. Those of us in favor of drafting a QB know we absolutely have to have a franchise QB and just want to make our chances as good as possible. You don't get a chance to grab a guy like Stafford or Sanchez every year. We want to strike while the chance is there, especially since there doesn't appear to be a compelling alternative at a position of need this year.

Definitely not a bust, but...

Right now, he really isn't a solid back up because a team would completely have to alter its offense to give him a chance with his current skill set.

I hope he's able to develop into a solid #2, however.

Me too.

It's interesting that people here don't get the issue between CP and WPI.

People here complain that someone with a different opinion get bashed, name-called, etc.

Have a different opinion over at WPI and you get banned.

I agree with this to. I don't know where the "true fan" thought came from so I will just blame Mecca.
