Right, which is why it's easy to go on Twitter and predict it. Brown has been the most likely guy all along

If we are going to overpay for a WR, overpay for a GREAT one

I mean, you kind of can. An odd year from MVS last year is the only reason it hasn't happened in a season dating back to 2020 and that year Mecole came up 40 yards short.

Hell, even Pringle came close in 2021.

That's been my point all along - there is no reason to pay $15M for 600-700 yards of production. You *can* throw just about anyone out there and get it.

If Jefferson is worth $32 million for 1800 yards then half the price for half the yards seems about right if we are just comparing value in dollars to yards. Brown would probably right about half on both those numbers here, so $16 million for 900 yards. And have value beyond that just in how the offense functions, opening things up for others.

Also this, but the truly elite guys didn't make it to the market.

So as someone else pointed out, you don't jus throw a bag at someone just for the sake of filling a slot.

You could bring Hardman back and bring in a guy like Donovan Peoples-Jones for the MVS role and still have quite a bit of cash left over and accomplish the same thing.

This is bush league shit but I want to move this stuff from the FA thread into the Hollywood thread because I think it's interesting:

You know how many of those throws were deemed to be 'on target throws'? 42.

So you can argue "Hey, guy's ADOT is inflated by his deep shots" but I think that takes "Man, his catch% is really poor" out of your argument in the process. Because 2/3 of the balls thrown to him on those plays simply weren't catchable balls.

And that's what so many of us have been trying to say to this point. He's a deep/intermediate WR who's had REALLY bad quarterback play on deep shots.

It's awfully hard to maintain quality rate stats when 25% of your targets are downfield and 2/3 of those are arrant shots.

he got 47 targets on passes deeper than 10 yards last season (deep/intermediate balls) and had a total on-target percentage of roughly 45% on those balls (21 balls on target on 47 throws).

Mahomes, on passes over 10 yards last year, was on target for about 60% of those throws. That's 7 more balls on target over 47 throws. Brown had a 90% catch rate on those on-target throws with an average depth of target of about 21 yards combined. Simply getting more accurate QB play on JUST those deep/intermediate shots gets him another 6 catches for 130 yards.

So he goes from 19 catches for 350 yards to 25 catches for 480 on JUST the medium/deep balls. That's massive - that's going from 7.4 yards/intermediate/deep target up to 10.2 yards per intermediate/deep targets. On deep shots ALONE his yards/target would've gone up 3 yards/target.

And that's without factoring in improved play-calling and surrounding weapons that could goose not only those numbers, but the numbers on short/intermediate plays.

The guy got really damn bad QB play.

Been saying it for years. Teams screw up paying one wr a crazy amount. Bengals are about to do that paying Chase more than Hill and that's what it will take. Boyd and Higgins will walk eventually. You had 3 and then one.
