Descalso has 1239 plate appearances over parts of five MLB seasons. He has a cumulative .2 WAR, and he's a -0.4 WAR player so far this year in 43 PA. Of players with 40+ PA, he's 328/356 in WAR, and every player lower than him on the list has more PA, save for Chris Herman and Ryan Doumit.

Essentially, per PA he's one of the three worst players in baseball.

My theory is that its collusion by the teams to incentivitze these players to sign contracts that cost them a year or two of free agency and the team doesn't have to deal with the arbitration years. You want to play in the big show, just sign this contract.

But, its just not the low payroll teams doing this its every team. Do the Cardinals really have to keep OT down in AAA because they want to save $2-$3 million a year for 2 years? At the most a total of $6 million tops over the length of the contract? Really? They made $65 million last year alone. So whats up if its not collusion?
