How about all the Hot Take Tards and Social Media Mongoloids that said, " Mahomes is SELFISH because he got his $$$ but the Chiefs had to CUT TWO PRO BOWLERS in order to pay him." THAT was my favorite one.

Its a win for the Chiefs in the short term, and if they found a long term solution to the position moving forward that's a win too.
Exactly. Plus OBJ is ONLY 24 years old! It's not like they traded for a 32-year old. Wait/ What? SO glad the 49'ers saved us from ourselves in this instance.

There is absolutely no reason to panic.

The Chiefs have him under control on his rookie deal in 2021 and they can franchise him if they don't come to a long term agreement in 2022.

From Brown's perspective, it's better to wait until 2022 because by that time, the new TV contracts will kick in, raising the salary cap and the potential for an even bigger deal than in 2021.

The fact that they don't have to sign him right away is excellent. The cap will explode, and if you sign him next year, you can easily make the first year cheaper and then he's hitting the real numbers after Clark/Jones deals free up space.

This team is so ****ing set going forward.

Lol, no one is panicking and that has nothing to do with it being a bad move. But there was quite a bit of chatter when Houston did the same with Tunsil, and he ended up with a gigantic contract.

The difference there is that Houston did the Tunsil trade entirely because they were cash-strapped and had to let go of Duane Brown. At least that's the story they claim. It's probably because Brown called Easterby on his snake oil shit and the owner got all pissy.

Still cash-strapped, they had no choice but to extend Tunsil because they gave up so much investment. They had to shovel in the money to the deal or they'd be completely ****ed.

The Chiefs were going to pay Trent Williams. And if he hadn't gotten injured, they were paying Eric Fisher. The money has always been there for a LT. They just had to get the right guy for the job.

Correct. And I think OBJ has shown more in his career at this point than Tunsil had when that trade went down. Plus Houston’s front office is aids. You can’t even begin to compare it to the Chiefs FO

There's no way in hell Veach doesn't already know that.

There's no way you don't pay a pro-bowl level LT who is 24 years old when you were prepared to go all in on 32 year old Trent Williams and pay him north of $20m per year.

It's possible that we wait and see him in this offense this year before we do so, but I have every expectation that if OBJ plays well here, we lock him up for the long haul.
EXACTLY !! But some here don't get that concept. They are afraid we might turn into Houston !!! No way we are even remotely close to doing what Houston did.

No. Just no.

The mindset they take is the same as Chris Ballard rolls out in Indy. It's what the Packers have been doing Aaron Rodgers whole career.

How has that worked out for them?

The Chiefs are in their window, now (and will be the entire time Mahomes is their QB). That means you're aggressive every year. If they can handle the LT position for the next decade by trading a 1st round pick, it makes perfect sense to do so. Even if you then pay the guy. OK, you lose 3 cheap years over taking someone like Spencer Brown or Walker Little or whatever.

But what happens... if that tackle you take at 31 is a bust?

Not all 1st round picks are equal. They really struggle with that concept.
They also seem to completely forget we get one cheap year out of the deal, that all the LTs we might have a shot at in this draft are mediocre with stubby arms, that we're in a legit superbowl window NOW, and how desperate our LT situation was.
