Minnesota supposedly wants to put the tag on Keenum, but that would be a horrifically awful decision.
If they come to their senses, it's going to be interesting to see what they do. Realistically, they might be in play for Kirk Cousins, because they can easily find the necessary cap space. If they ate his contract, you're still left with Buffalo, Washington, Denver, Jacksonville, Cleveland, Arizona, and the NYJ all needing QBs. Seven teams all needing QBs, and the "reasonable" options in the draft that one could expect to start year one are Darnold, Mayfield, and Rosen. A team who drafts Allen would be ****ing idiots to put him out there without a redshirt year, so that requires having somebody already on the team or going out to find a sacrificial meatbag. That takes four teams out of the running for Smith. Three teams left, and those teams have to choose between a Smith trade, Nick Foles, or Case Keenum. This is why I keep telling people that they're ****ing idiots when they say there is no market for Smith. In the WORST case scenario, there are still going to be two teams who need Smith and will probably try to have to outbid each other for him. I say worst case because there could be any one of these teams who will both draft use the draft and sign away some of the competition (ex: the team who drafts Allen might also sign Keenum, leaving us with THREE teams who need Alex Smith). That equals a 2nd round pick to me. Minimum. |

I've thought all along that the Chiefs get a 2nd, with the possibility of an added 6th or 7th, but not much more.
If a team is drafting a QB high, they're most likely not looking to give a 2nd round draft pick for a 1 year rental at $17.5 million for a single season. Arizona and DC, if they allow Cousins to walk, IMO, are the teams most likely to trade for him. The Jets might be a contender, if Woody & Co. decide to pass on an early QB but I think they'll probably take a guy in the first. |

Buffalo really put themselves, incidentally, in an awkward position with their trade back last year. They were supposed to suck and be able to draft one of the supposed great 2018 QBs, but then they didn't... and how they're in QB purgatory limbo.
They have to decide if one of these guys is worth trading up for this year. And if not, do they reach for someone at 21/22? Do they go for the veteran who will continue to keep them in purgatory, ala Smith? I know they got a great corner from trading back last year but I think they might regret it in the long run. |

Woody's Jets have always had MASSIVE QB balls on draft day( end result of picks notwithstanding ). Good to see the Chiefs finally drop theirs.

I think the Bills will be very interested in Alex. McDermott will value an Andy Reid QB, he's basically what they were hoping Tyrod Taylor would become ans he's not going to be passing a bunch in the winter anyhow. Moving on Alex could allow them to keep both the 1's and load up fast for their short window. |
