I think this is blown out of proportion with him.

He has shown absolutely NOTHING since leaving Tennessee that would make you questions his maturity/leadership/work as you listed...

I understand these are the reasons why he probably dropped out of the draft, but I also think he has done a great job at working on this and correcting this.

If I knew nothing on him coming out of college and I am judging him off of the offseason/camp/preseason...I would say there are no maturity/leadership issues there...

I'm excited for Bray too but I'm keeping it in perspective. He's the only QB with an arm that we have, but he was playing against 2's last night and let's not pretend Green Bay is known for their defense. I'd take him over Chase Daniel just based on his skill set but I won't say he'll be beast in 2-3 years. Well just have to wait and see.

Geno Smith is a QB.

Te'o is a MIKE backer. And for crying out loud, of all the prospects that have come through the draft at that position in recent years, you chose the Tim Tebow of them all to go #1.

The books on neither of these two players are close to being written, but if Geno Smith succeeds, that means a star-studded QB in the league for years to come.

If Te'o succeeds, well... yeah, nobody will care.

Teo has the size the Chiefs want at the other LB spot. Reports I'm hearing from Chargers camp are saying Teo is excelling. I hope Nico Johnson works out. Time will tell. Geno has showed nothing up to now that would lead me to believe he will ever be an effective starter in this league. I believe Tyler Bray was worth a 2nd. I thought he had the best NFL arm in the draft class. Maturity was a question but talent wasn't.

Bray is a baby by NFL standards, he's 21 years old he can sit for two years ans still have a long career. Geno looks lost to me and that usually doesn't change.

It's possible the slap of being an UDFA - probably not what he expected when jumping early to the NFL - served as a wake up call. That would be a beneficial outcome for the Chiefs, so I hope it's the case.

I think it's a stretch to call his maturity and behavior issues at Tennessee overblown, though. They were pretty well-documented and universally accepted.

He's cleaned his act up for a few months at a time in the past, too. Going to need to see a lot more before I believe it is permanent.

The arm talent and size are exciting. Still leery of the rest of the package.

It wasn't just maturity. They didn't call plays in a traditional sense at Tenn. so he flunked all the chalkboard sessions. He is a baller and always has been though. He is not immature on the field. Now he may throw rocks at passing cars at Arrowhead or leave gum under his chair but who cares if he wins on Sundays. lmao

Not saying it was overblown at UT...just that people are still using his maturity as an excuse, as it is the one thing holding him back right now from being anything special.

I am saying that ever since declaring for the Pros...there have been no maturity issues from what I've seen.

I don't think his maturity/work ethic/leadership is keeping him from earning a starting spot one day...I think it's just the basics, in learning the playbook and all the other nuances of being a proffesional QB. And it waiting for his big break... I think he is [currently] in a very similar situation as Aaron Rodgers was in when he [Aaron] was just waiting in the wings for his chance to get on the field...

I think everyone here agrees he has everything you want in a QB...

jesus, i realize i sound like a downer

i'm glad we have bray, i'm rooting for him...the fact that he can throw a ball with such velocity with such atrocious ****ing form is amazing (there's a pic of him from last night where he looks like bret saberhagen)

but he's still a big project, and we need to draft a QB next year just like we have for decades.....(but won't)

Of course we wont.

Chiefs are in #winnow mode. Need to find a RT to block for Smith after Albert walks out the door and Fisher moves to LT.

They both had some of the same questions coming out about attitude, and apparently both did interviews terribly. Part of Mallets problem is he is so big, and such a statue. Bray is mobile.

no one would even burn a 7th to ensure they got him, why?

because he has a big arm and almost no discernible NFL talent that could be found on tape from mechanics (throws like a sidearm pitcher) to accuracy to decision making...plus he was a world class douche, and that's why you end up a udfa

i'm stoked we grabbed him, i'm glad he dominated 3rd stringers in the 4th preseason game (seriously, that's a good sign, you should look good among lessers), and I hope he doesn't play a snap this year

but I woke up to read in this thread that 'his upside is marino' and 'no one in next year's class has more talent' and realized we're going to have people claiming we don't need to draft a QB next year because of Bray the UDFA...and that is scary
If I didn't know who you were talking about, I could of swore you were talking about Brett Favres draft profile. Would it surprise you if they didn't? Alex Smith is under contract, Chase Daniel is under contract, and they let go of Stanzi on first cuts, and let Bray pretty much play the entire game. He got better in every game he played against. Against scrubs or not, Nick Foles played against scrubs last night for philly and looked like a steaming pile of dog shit.....

Should you take a 3rd for him if it were offered? I can see some fair points for either side you lean on.
We aren't talking about a guy who just fell and no one knew about. He was a guy that was projected as a 3rd round pick this year. A first round projected player in Barkley fell to the 4th round. It was a horrible year for qbs, and as it was posted a while ago a GM said that he was TERRIFIED of this class of qbs. It really was that bad. But the arm talent with Bray, is RARE, AND REAL.....I made the mistake of clowning Kaep because people raved about his arm, I wont make the same mistake.....

But, it does show how horrific our QB's have been since a UDFA is outclassing them.
Croyle also panicked when pressure hit. Something that young qbs often do, but I didn't see Bray do that. He showed real composure. He showed it even in the first preseason game against the saints when he rolled left, and floated that ball to Kelce that should of been a TD, but stone hands dropped it.

T'eo is EXCELLING? From what? Being in his walking boot, to NOT being in his walking boot?

The guy played 9 snaps in the preseason, and in college against the only real defense he saw in Alabama he got destroyed. He couldn't get off linemen, he couldn't tackle eddie lacy, hes slow. They masked his deficiencies by putting him in zone and letting their D line abuse weaker olines, and once they faced a real oline, he got exposed and destroyed.

I do agree on your take on bray though.
