Of all the players (with the exception of Jones) who will be free agents in 2020, we want Pennel to re-sign the most, right?
And given each player's potential contract figures, some of us probably want Pennel MORE than Jones, I imagine. |

Pennel, Nnadi and Saunders are enough in the middle. Jones is just going to cost too much.

Drafting Saunders and getting competent play out of him already as a raw rookie kinda puts the writing on the wall for me. And I know he’s NOT Chris Jones, don’t get me wrong. But having young cheap options on the interior like he and Nnadi that get the job done makes Jones more expendable.
I’d rather use that money on a shorter term deal for an upgrade at a spot such as CB, LB, OL... then make good use out of a pick or two that Jones brings back. |

Why isn’t Pennel signed for the next couple of years yet?

It's a good sign for Veach. The future of the Chiefs is to sign an elite team on offense, rely on the draft to stack our defense. If we play our cards right we can continuously draft a replacement right when a young guy falls off a rookie contract.

It's the other way, most of the talent were drafted on Offense, but The D has a bunch of mercs in comparison
