I made it! I was a successful Realtor returning from my honeymoon to New York in 1st class with my wife. We easily boarded Lifeboat 5 early in the process and apparently most of the people didn't even think it was a serious problem at that point.

Even though I did nothing wrong, it sounds like there was some stigma against male survivors, though, which bothered me for a long time and I wouldn't talk about the sinking.

Edit: it looks like if you were just called a "saloon steward", you were working in third class. The other two classes are distinctly named according to which class they served.
