There are fans that give the benefit of the doubt to every single move made by the team...and there is the other side of the spectrum and that's guys lime TTC.

I'm not even saying there is anything wrong with that, either.

The last time this team won a playoff game was 1994 and the last big time free agency signing was.........well..........hmmmmmmm

Until the management of this team shows a willingness to push this team to the next level, do they really deserve the benefit of the doubt?

After long enough of this franchise, it gets kinda hard to get excited about things you KNOW aren't gonna happen because they NEVER do.

First round quarterbacks and acquiring blue chip players through all methods are two things this team has ALWAYS had "difficulty" doing.

Difficulty = unwillingness to take the necessary steps

I despise this organization but I'm willing to view each decision in a vacuum.

On its face, I like this move. If the guy quits again, he won't be able to drive a team bus.

I think we'll get the 2010 Hillis, or at least a reasonable facsimile. And at is what is most likely to be a very short term, very reasonable contract - why not? You can still draft a guy like David Wilson or Lamar Miller as Charles insurance or just a developmental back.

A cheap Hillis on a short term deal simply presents very little actual risk; only perceived risk which is easily excised if planned for.

hillis is a quitter, that's not an arguable fact nor a judgement based on my admittedly low opinion of our cheap ass owner and dumb **** GM

you can sign hillis and clap real loud about it

but you can't say he isn't a quitter, because he is

Romeo hasn't exactly run the tightest locker room, something to consider when contemplating bringing in a guy like Hillis.

Honest to God question - who's likely to be the 53rd guy on this roster?

Some guy like Jackie Battle, right? Somebody that isn't likely to contribute any more than a common street FA or practice squad player. For as much debate as those final few roster spots generate; very little true impact comes from them 90% of the time.

What is the harm in making that 53rd guy Peyton Hillis? Oh sure, he'd be higher up the depth chart than that, but you could treat his roster spot like he's just the 53rd guy.

If he starts jaking it, you get rid of his ass. Nobody in football would blame you, including his teammates (who don't sally that shit).

Honestly - what is the harm here?

I simply do not understand the backlash. He knows he's out of chances. He knows he has to play hard to get paid. And it's not like he was a glory boy through College and to get into the league. The dude busted his ass, put in the hours and fought his way up the depth chart to get to where he was last season.

He's shown plenty in his career to suggest that he has heart. Something simply went very very wrong last year. Why is that seen as who he is? Why does that trump the guy that was a 4-year letterman and thankless grunt blocking back in front of McFadden and Jones at Arkansas, or the guy that turned himself into a legitimate NFL stud after being a 7th round pick?

The dude have every opportunity to say "**** this, I'm not getting the credit, I'm not getting the glory and I'm not getting a shot - I'm done", but he didn't. He showed a hell of a lot more heart getting to where he is than a ton of guys in this league have.

This guy spent 7 years showing as much fight and heart as anyone on the gridiron - why are we so willing to trash that?

He beat the holy shit out of his body for 7 years for barely over the league minimum, knew his shelf-life in this league was probably garbage and essentially held out without truly holding out.

Would it have been better had he just held out the whole season?

He didn't just quit because things got hard; that's not how it went at all. Call it what it was - a holdout.

If you call it a holdout from a guy that was getting pretty well screwed by a cheap-ass organization, it doesn't seem nearly as bad now does it?

I'd take Hillis.
He'd fill a big need on this team.
