Could this end up being a more disappointing offseason than 2009?

I'm thinking purely personnel moves. The coaching staff has a better pedigree, even if Reid is basically the last guy I wanted here. But player-wise? What are we looking at here?

Now this is not really a "draft Geno/Barkely/whoever" thing, it's more of a "how ****ed are we as fans of this franchise?" commentary. About the circumstances we, as fans, find ourselves in. I mean, think about it: we get the number one pick and for whatever reason, whether it's the prospects at the position or the front office philosophy, we aren't taking a QB. We get a complete turnover of the front office and coaching staff that basically everyone wanted, and Matt Cassel will be shown the door, to everyone's joy....yet our new quarterback is Alex frikkin Smith. With Chase Daniel serving as his boy wonder.

Does it get worse than this? Seriously. You couldn't script this stuff. This is like the Bad News Bears and the Indians from Major League had a baby who decided to play football. "Change" comes every 5 years or so, but nothing ever seems to get any better.

The football gods continue laughing.

By the time Reid is 60 and we're gearing up for one last ride with a 35 year old Alex Smith, we'll be looking for a RT, pass rusher, whatever.

Lather, rinse, repeat.
Yep. I can't wait until we get that CB/S/DE, and are finally ready to dominate.

It all depends on if we can trade out of the first pick. If we can do that and get a 2nd this year and big compensation next year along with nailing our picks it could turn out alright.

I didn't expect a huge free agency and blue collar guys like DeVitto, Fasano and hosenphefer Inc. ..oh wait.....I don't mind those guys or Robinson but I'm confused about Daniels. Just signing a backup QB instead of drafting a QB of the future makes no sense to me. But still if we can trade out of 1.1 we can still make it a good offseason.

If the only alternative is to sit at home patiently until she gets home from "work" at 4 am, then yes, yes I will.

The Alex Smith deal was announced quite awhile ago.
Signing Chase Daniel pretty much eliminates Drafting the best QB on the board and instead going with a LT.

So no, people are not overreacting.

You people are wearing me out. All of the moaning/groaning. Sheesh. Ok, let's take a quick review. We hired a coach who I think most would agree is a savvy coach when it comes to assessing QB talent. I think his record in Philly speaks well to that. Then we hired a guy for a GM who was part of the organization who drafted someone who is arguable the best QB in the league.....when they already had a Hall of Fame QB in the fold. Seems to me that these guys know QBs.

However, that is not to suggest that they've never missed on a prospect, but in my mind, their pedigree is pretty impressive. And yes, I know it's unfortunate that they apparently don't see Geno as The Answer, but if they don't, they don't! Or perhaps they should log onto CP and get the inside skinny as to what they REALLY should do.

Fellas, you're letting your disappointment with prior regimes color your thinking. This is a new regime, and until footballs start to actually fly next September, we're really not going to have a clue how this turns out.

One other thing; I think many of you think that if we go something like 8-8 next year, we'll have no way to get a top-rated QB. Again, it appears many of you have been brainwashed to think that Dorsey/Reid are essentially just more of the same. How did Washington end up with RGIII? Heck, all it took was someone thinking a bit outside the box (mixed with a rather sizable portion of guts) and they ended up with a quality QB. Who is to say that our guys couldn't do something like that next year.....or whenever they light upon a suitable QB candidate.

It's a NEW DAY. Enjoy the journey!!!

You should've been here during the years where Carl would be on vacation the first day of free agency. Those were fun.

Yes, they did what it took to draft someone. KC does everything to justify not doing it. Works well eh?

Every time a new regime comes in, the same thing happens.
It's time we stop giving them the benefit of the doubt and start riding their ass until they can prove they are different.

So far it's the same exact shit this franchise has seen for 30 years.... other teams castoffs at the most important position.
