Browns looking to trade Alex Mack and Joe Thomas
Browns looking to trade Alex Mack and Joe Thomas
The news is rather surprising given that Thomas is under contract through 2018 -- he has no guaranteed money for 2016 -- and Mack, who was almost lost in free agency to the Jacksonville Jaguars a season ago, has a no-trade clause. Mack -- who was listed by our Marc Sessler as a prime trade candidate earlier this week -- can opt out of his long-term deal after this season, though, which could be a motivating factor. Still, this is an interesting and rather unorthodox approach to the trade deadline. The team likely feels they can replace Mack with 2015 first-round pick Cam Erving and slot one of their other highly-regarded offensive linemen in for Thomas. Rapoport added that the team is also open to dealing former high-priced free agent acquisition Paul Kruger and Barkevious Mingo, the No. 6 overall pick from the 2013 draft. This, after already dealing Trent Richardson, their No. 3 overall pick from the 2012 draft. If you're just now sensing a pattern here, catch up. This is Browns football. This would be the ultimate white flag raised on the 2015 season considering the Browns were going to hang their hat on the run game. Thomas has been one of the franchise's greatest players and, in a way, a trade to a contending opponent would be bittersweet. On one hand, he could finally put his skills to better use, but on the other, he would be departing a team that hinged on his professionalism for years. Many of these talks often break down but scars from certain names leaking remain. So if general manager Ray Farmer is interested in getting it done, the clock is ticking. Nov. 3, 4 p.m. ET is coming quite soon. http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap300...and-joe-thomas |

So a stellar cast would prop up AS's play. But you've spent this whole thread talking about how Alex wouldn't improve even with a stellar cast.

I've said all thread long... Lipstick on a pig. Of course Alex would improve. But his fundamental weaknesses wouldn't change.

A stellar cast would improve the team, . . . until they lost, . . . clearly solely due to Alex's mother's failure to dip her entire son in the river Styx as an infant.

I trust that Dorsey sees what Smith really is. Right or wrong, that's what I am going with so I don't lose my mind. I think they get a QB and let Smith play next year.
Either way, discussing the Chiefs avoiding talent is pointless. If you are Dorsey you get what you can if you feel it's not giving up too much. He is going to want to help either Alex or the next QB, or both. The Chiefs aren't going to intentionally avoid talent(even if it seems that way at times) so hypothetically discussing it is going to drive us all nuts. Not to mention that I want the next QB to come in with as good a line as possible. Blowing it up so we can start over AFTER we get a QB is asking for trouble. |

Those weaknesses wouldn't be so magnified if we weren't put in shitty positions drive after drive. If you have a QB that isn't aggressive, don't you think keeping him out of 3rd and long situations is important?

improving the Oling helps every QB and RB
What happens is we actually draft a QB in the 1st round next year? A better Oline is going to help that rookie a ton. i know, i know ... bitch, bitch, bitch ... can't stop bitching about Alex Smith no matter what.

A little pissed it took Reid 1/3 of a season to get the team's mind right after the Denver game.

I'd love to get Joe Thomas for something reasonable. It's pretty clear they will part ways with Fisher at the end of the year. So its Thomas or 1st round OL.
