Whats Patrick Mahomes trade value?

Lets assume you are the Chiefs GM.

Mahomes comes to you demanding a trade. He says he refuses to play for the Chiefs and Andy Reid any more.

What's a fair and realistic return?

Even if the Colts could have predicted Lucks future, they still would have taken him #1 overall that year.

But why bother with that when they could have drafted an OT or something and gradually collapse over 8-9 years so they could draft Lawrence?

Instant HOFer!!!

If Lawrence can somehow end up pretty much any other team than the Jets, he’ll have a better rookie season than Matt Ryan but if he ends up with a bad team, I’ll be surprised if he has a rookie season like Joe Burrow is having.

The Herschel Walker trade was the largest player trade in the history of the National Football League.[1] This deal on October 12, 1989, centered on sending running back Herschel Walker from the Dallas Cowboys to the Minnesota Vikings. Including Walker and a transaction involving the San Diego Chargers, the trade eventually involved 18 players and draft picks.[2] At the time of the deal, the Cowboys were one of the worst teams in the league (the team finished the 1989 season with its worst post-merger record, 1–15), trading away their best player, while the Vikings believed that Walker was the missing piece they needed to make a Super Bowl run. Thus, Minnesota originally felt that they got the better end of the deal. Instead, the Cowboys used the draft picks acquired in this trade to get the players they needed to help them win three Super Bowls in the 1990s. Meanwhile, the Vikings did not make a Super Bowl appearance with Walker.

Cowboys Received
LB Jesse Solomon
LB David Howard
CB Issiac Holt
DE Alex Stewart
Minnesota's 1st round pick in 1990
Minnesota's 2nd round pick in 1990
Minnesota's 6th round pick in 1990
Minnesota's 1st round pick in 1991 (conditional on cutting Solomon)
Minnesota's 2nd round pick in 1991 (conditional on cutting Howard)
Minnesota's 1st round pick in 1992 (conditional on cutting Holt)
Minnesota's 2nd round pick in 1992 (condition met by trading away Nelson)
Minnesota's 3rd round pick in 1992 (conditional on cutting Stewart)

Vikings RecievedRB Herschel Walker
Dallas's 3rd round pick in 1990
San Diego's 5th round pick in 1990
Dallas's 10th round pick in 1990
Dallas's 3rd round pick in 1991

Chargers Recieved
RB Darrin Nelson

*Chiefs are in the exact opposite position and would never trade Mahomes, but if you wanted to try and value him it would take significantly more than the above.

I know the game was different, but imagine giving that up for a RB. Pretty much sums up the Vikings franchise.

The other team's whole team plus all their draft picks for 5 years. Except the Jets would have to include their stadium also...

Not even for 15 first round picks.

Only way that maybe could change is if you had no one else on the roster and were a losing team.

Not very smart. Mahomes is a proven and young superstar talent. Lawrence has not proven jack squat at the NFL level. He's had a huge talent advantage surrounding him at Clemson. He won't have that in the NFL and it will be interesting to see what happens with him.

So if you are going down this route of a trade scenario, I think it takes about 5-6 first round picks to trade Mahomes. Maybe even something stronger than that. Not a single first round pick is guaranteed to be a superstar player, whereas Mahomes is a proven guy and still very young.
