The initial reaction to Philly pulling Hurts seems like it has been cries of how much of a "disgrace" it was. For example:

This is the most negative barrage of comments I have received about a game’s lack of integrity and that’s not even counting Giants-related bias.
Consensus from those in NFL and who have been associated with it: Disgrace.

But how is that any worse than other teams resting their starters? Our game didn't matter, but Pittsburgh rested a few guys which almost certainly helped Cleveland get into the playoffs and forced the Dolphins to sit at home.

Just curious if there's some reason I'm missing that the former situation is so egregious while the latter is just normal.

Here's how you know that bringing in Sudafeld wasn't really planned. The one guy besides the QBs in question that would have to know about a change like that would be the center. And obviously Jason Kelce had no idea this was going to happen, based on both his in-game reaction as well as post-game.

Just saying.

Yeah, it's just funny to me that the line that is apparently drawn is that you aren't allowed to take your foot off in the middle of a game, but you can do it before the game all you want. I get it, but it seems a bit arbitrary when it comes down to it.

Pederson said that he would possibly give Sudfeld snaps in his press conference last week. It wasn't a secret.

I get that. But it was quite obvious that Jason didn't understand inserting Sudafeld at that point in the game. So while Pederson might have said something about it last week, he sure didn't make it clear to Jason before or during the game (or Hurts, or basically the whole team) that no matter what he was putting Suafed in to start the 4th Q no matter what the situation.

It's also worth nothing that the NFL changed their scheduling a few years back to backload it with Divisional games, under the guise that there would be more at stake for teams in December than in September.

In reality, it was all about ratings.

Last year, it was the Seahawks-49ers, with the winner getting the #1 seed while the loser would get the #5 seed. In 2018, the late game between the Chargers and Chiefs was critical to the seedings. This year, the NFL guessed wrong. If they didn't want a controversary, they should have kept the Eagles-WFT game early and moved the Cowboys-Giants to the SNF game.

Unfortunately for Giants fans, Doug Pedersen had other plans, which ultimately helped out his buddies Ron Rivera and Alex Smith.

No coach is beholden to his players.

Pedersen is allowed to make any decision he'd like, regardless of the player's "feelings".

The ****ing Eagles were 4-10-1 going into the game so Kelce should have figured out that they were going nowhere long before last night.

Jason Kelce is 33 years old and will be 34 next November. The Eagles would take a $10 million dollar Dead Cap hit if they released him before June 1st but only around $3 million if they designate him as a Post June 1 cut.

The Chiefs would need to have an agreement in place with him before the draft and the advent of free agency, which isn't likely and would definitely result in a loss of draft picks if they tampered.

Even if they could work out some sort of agreement, he'd be a stop-gap player at best and not a long term solution.
