I don’t see any point in complaining about other people’s taste in music or criticizing their tastes as less than. Critiquing music from an artistic perspective of its merits is different though. As is criticizing a specific genre/niche that rappers posted in this thread (and similar threads) live in which is one that is basically promoting and glorifying a “live by the sword die by the sword” culture that is obviously detrimental to a portion of the community that follows it.

Yep. All it takes is a little effort to seek out the music and the discerning ear to hone in on the good ones and weed out the garbage.

I consume a ton of music, especially hard rock and metal. There's tons of good old stuff and there's tons of good new stuff. But mental, just like every other genre is being consumed by quantization, electronic drums, click tracks, and autotune. Some metal bands even autotune their guitars.

You HAVE to seek out good new music. It's not coming to you anymore, the mainstream music industry has changed and changed dramatically.

Right, and some of these apps like YouTube and Spotify are pretty good at giving you leads.

The more expanded your musical taste is, the more likely you are to find new music.

If your musical taste doesn't expand beyond the shit you grew up with/around, then maybe you're just not that into music?

Couldn't disagree more.

It's more raw than it's ever been. It's the best rap has been since the 90's.

(Mostly) gone are the days of money rap, "bling bling look at my watch, look at my rims bling bling...." that shit is mostly over now.

There's been an emergence of "grassroots" rappers from the streets talking real street shit and it's been refreshing.

Yep. Music is part of my blood, part of my DNA. I have it running all the time, sometimes even when I'm sleeping. There's so much good music out there today and it pains me every time somebody says "they don't make music like they used to". Some bands and artists absolutely DO make music like that but you won't often (or ever) hear them on the radio. You have to expand your horizons and your mind. Good stuff is out there just waiting to be found.
