The "I just got back from the gym" and this is what I have eaten thread.

Okay, so there are a ton of guys in here that are working out, trying to work out, or 'thinking' about working out.

So, I figured I would start a thread. I am all about making myself accountable. The more people that I tell about working out, the more people I would let down by not going.

If you go to the gym.... then post here when you get back. If you do P90X, post here when you get done. If you ride the excercise bike.... post it here.

Anything you do to get in shape.... share with the board. I know I have gotten some great advice and feedback.

Also, post what you eat. If you post everything you eat, and you know others will be critical, you may think twice before you grab a Twinkie.

Okay, so, I went to the gym. I did five minutes on the cross climber to warm up. I stretched for about three minutes.

Then, I did three sets of squats with just 135. I did back extensions and hanging leg lifts. Three sets each. I did leg curls, calf extensions, abductor and adductor excercises as well.

On my leg day, I do very light chest exercises to work on my explosive power. I do three sets of six pushups as explosively as I can. I throw the excercise ball up like a chest pass while laying on the bench.

Then, I finished off my workout with 30 minutes on the eliptical.

As far as my diet.

Breakfast two pieces of peanut butter whole wheat toast, protein shake, and banana.

I have had another banana, two yogurts, and a handful of cashews as snacks.

I didn't have a 'lunch' per se.

Kids had sloppy joes with lean beef (as if that makes it great).... I took a baked potato, and put a serving of sloppy joe over it, with jalapenos and 2 oz's of lowfat cheddar cheese.

I have also had shotgun with water, and synthesize with water.

I won't eat again before bed.

Okay, I know putting everything down here will open me up to criticism. I know some will think that I am doing things all wrong. I appreciate any advice, but I have done a lot of reading and talking to trainers.... so, I have an idea of what I am doing.... or at least what I think I am doing.

The point of this thread, isn't to get into pissing matches about how to do things.... but rather to give ourselves a gold star for making an effort.

Try not to beat anyone down on this thread, because this is about encouragement.

Well, you got a little dental work done. It's not a full blown tooth ache. Hopefully you've never had the kind where it shoots through your neck, shoulders, ears, and down your spine. It's pretty ****ing brutal. Pain pills are a crap shoot.

I know what you're talking about though. That dull pain that is constant and doesn't go away for 1 second.

I've never had kidney stones thank God. I've heard they're brutal.

Yeah, never had that.

Kidney stones are indeed brutal. Only had them once, but I was puking into a plastic cup because the pain was so bad.

Much like sick days... pain pills really aren't much fun if you honestly need them.

Came back from the gym and had a few Cheez-Its and two string cheeses.
After googling "healthy post workout" foods, I had a turkey sandwich with a glass of apple juice.

I'm having some really good jalpeno cheese along with some crackers and a glass of cabernet and erbs. The excersise of the day was biceps and triceps and some step ups. Then I cleaned the dog pen and raked the yard. Gonna make some spag and meat sauce here in a bit. The key is just don't over eat. I can eat all the spag.......but I'm not gonna.

I've got one day of my 3-day workout rotation that's a monster weight day. Just do some really heavy weight, low-rep work (by my standards at least). I've noticed that after these days, I seem to just be starving for the next 24-36 hours. Much more so than any other day of the week. Is this just in my head, or is there something physiological that's happening on these heavy weight days that's not happening on other days?

Don't use wraps. You're covering up a problem.

Try Bulgarian split squats with lighter weight. Stretch your quads after. See what happens when you do lighter weight for a while. Also, see a doctor immediately if it gets worse, or lingers no matter what weight you use.
A ha!

Maybe that's my problem then? I squat 90 degrees and don't go below parallel.

Thank you very much sir for clearing this up with me. I need to squat below parallel.

But one thing, how much below parallel should one go? do you reccommend going all the way down? Or just slightly below 90 degrees?

I go all the way down (Ass To Grass aka ATG), personally. You may not be able to do that until you develop the flexibility in your hips, though.

So no gym today. I sat home watching basketball, bored because I can't see without my contacts to even drive anywhere and decided to do an aerobic workout via Comcast On Demand.

Up comes Jillian Michaels and she proceeds to beat the shit out of me for 30 solid minutes. I'm not flexible, and I'm not very good at a lot of this shit. That is really enough for me to probably start doing it everyday probably in the evening to get some extra activity in.

For you burpee pros, you would've laughed your asses off. It was comedy gold.

Last night I did Back/Bi's/Legs/Lower back. It is normally two days for me, but I am taking off Saturday most likely and I wanted to get all my work in. I worked out on Weds, which is normally an off day. I am working my chest/triceps again tonight. I am REALLY disappointed about how my bench press is going. It has been months and I am stuck at my current max. Seriously, it's been since December. I have read different things, but I don't really want to work my chest every day because of how it fits into the rest of my workout. I just have to be more diligent about my routine. I am doing some heavy sets at near my max, but only getting a rep or two. I don't think it is doing me that much good. So, I am going to drop down and crank out five sets of six reps and just start going up 5lbs every workout. I just have to break through this plateau.

Alright, I have done well eating for the last two days.

Lord knows I'm an idiot on bench press, because I'm similar in being stuck at 195 for my working weight (the difference is that I'm not currently obsessed with my bench press and not working it that hard)... but have you tried other chest presses to supplement? Dumb bell, incline, decline, etc...?
