Because the next best 1B in the minors is Xavier Scruggs, who is nothing more than a quadruple A guy.

Adams to the dl it imagine. He'd actually had some success the past couple games so that kinda sucks.

If he's down long they'll need someone else besides Reynolds.

Reynolds is not a full time starter. He's been OK in the platoon.

He's not a complete player as a full-time starter, but if you give him full time ABs I think he can give you a .230 BA with a .740 OPS and 25+ HRs.

So he'd provide power and some OBP. It's not perfect, but it would do.

The problem is that he's going to be extremely susceptible to the kind of pitching you're likely to see in the post-season. Come October, 80% of the pitchers you face are going to be throwing 93 mph or better and most of them will have at least one credible breaking ball they can throw for strike.

Reynolds will absolutely abuse guys with sub-par fastballs or guys that can't command their breaking stuff. You'll face enough of those over 162 games to give yourself respectable counting stats. But you'll be absolutely worthless in the playoffs.

Mostly you just have to hope that the DL time gives Adams some time to re-charge. He's been at his best after breaks or when sporadically used. Perhaps the DL will give him the time to recover that he needs. Then maybe someone can get his ass on a !@#$ing treadmill in the offseason so the poor stamina isn't always a problem.

This point can never be stressed enough. A guy *must* be able to turn on a good fastball in October or he is going to get blown away, because he can't count on facing 4th and 5th starters and mop up guys to boost his #s.

Reynolds will be a little like the Cardinal version of Reggie Sanders --when it comes October, you just hope that he K's instead of GIDP, because he simply does not have the bat or discipline to handle the high, hard stuff.

Sorry for Matt but good for the Cardinals. Now they will have to upgrade. Think of a long term solution. At least I don't think Adams is the long term solution at 1B.

Reynolds is perfect for spot duty, National League pinch hitter, DH for interleague play. Moving Holliday would be the best move on the current roster without a trade, reasons would be a) his salary matches 1st base offensive production b) you have a glut of young talented outfielders who he is blocking because you need his bat in the lineup. But then again Holliday could be gone after 2016. You have a team option on him for 2017. Maybe they just want to delay Piscotty's service time.

Also when does the Ryan Howard crazy rumors starting popping up. You know that is going to happen with him being a former Bear and St. Louis native.

I just have to wonder how long until these injuries take a toll; Adams, Wainwright, Walden....not even remotely sure who theyll target. Or who they should target.Maybe Adam Lind? Brewers are going nowhere. Or, maybe a 3B and move Carp to 1st?

They already started. Heard it on STL radio today. Theory goes that the Cardinals are the most profitable team in baseball. We have not done much in FA besides Peraltta since Holliday in 2009. That should have money to blow.

We take Hamels and Howards full salaries. Going to have to write off a bunch of Howards money. But, thats the way you get those 2 players for cheaper cost in prospects.

Holliday at 1B through 2017 sounds good to me if you can get buy in from Holliday.

Yeah, no one in here at least is interested in anything but the playoffs. Sure, we have to get there first but we can play .500 ball and get to 92 wins now. That should be playoff worthy.

Reynolds in not an everyday player.

Grienke/Kershaw/Washington Pitchers will eat up Reynolds with high quality fastballs. He will be a good guy to bring off the bench after the starters are out and before the best relievers get in the game. Runner or two on....he could change the game.
