Damien Williams: is it time for a change?

I know the title is my own question, but I'm going to answer my own question. This guy has very clearly shown that last year was an absolute fluke. He can't do anything worth a shit and if Veach wouldn't have given him a stupid ass extension, then he'd be off this team. In what universe do you keep giving the ball to a guy that has 41 rushes for 70 yards and 1.7 ypc. This last game was absolute dog shit 11 total touches for 6 ****ing yards. Are you kidding me? He shouldn't touch the ball again.

Bad is an understatement. He's horrendous. Literally the absolute worst back in the league. There are 43 qualified players and he ranks 43rd in ypc. He's at 1.7 ypc and no one else is under 3.0 ypc. The distance between him and the 42nd rank player, Le'Veon Bell, is 1.3 ypc. The distance between Le'Veon Bell and the 20th ranked player, Chris Carson, is 1.3 ypc.

This is definitely something that needs brought up more. That's gotta be some kind of record for worst ever. We are seeing history boys. The absolute worst RB performance in the history of the game or close. I took off the hide non qualifiers filter and it looks even worse. He's 192 out of 227. There are only 5 other players with 10+ carries that average less ypc, it's pretty much a Who's Who of most electric runners in the league.

#194 Kalen Ballage - 22 car/36 yards/1.6 ypc/13 carries since being demoted from being a starter 3 games ago

#198 Joe Flacco - 11 car/11 yards/1.0 ypc/He's a statue of a QB. **** id hope Williams would have more ypc than this bum. Spoiler alert - all the rest of this list is the same. Statue QBs.

#208 Jared Goff
#210 Jimmy G.
#213 Tom Brady

Did some more research and going all the way back to 1999, so 20 other years, and the lowest ypc for qualified runners is 2.5 ypc in 1999. The average of all the lowest ypc is 2.9. I can't believe how bad that he has been. There is no way anyone can even try to defend him. He's the king of shit fest running backs and for Reid to continue to allow him to play is egregious.

Nope. You can't possibly be right. CP told me how we would not miss K Hunt because of Damien Williams.

No hes really not that good of a receiver. Over his career he's averaged 12.8 receiving yards per game and has been average with 8.2 yards per reception. That's really just average. Look at the past starters for KC all the way back to Priest.

Holmes - 10 ypr during his stretch with KC
Johnson - in his 3 years in which he was good 12.6, 10.4, 10 ypr
Charles - 3 out of 6 of his years in which he played 15 games he averaged 10+ ypr
Ware - 11.5 ypr career average
Kareem Hunt - 10.5 ypr career average
Dam Williams - 1 season out of 6 he had 10.8 ypr. That was in 2016. That year he had 23 receptions for 249 yards which comes out to 10.8 ypr. That year is inflated by one 58 yards reception. Take that one reception away and he has 22 rec for 191 yards, that's 8.7 ypr.

He has a worse yards per catch in KC (7.2) then he did in Miami (8.6). If not for his 1st two games this year, then hed have a better yards per games average in Miami. Where the hell did this Williams is a good receiving back thing come from?

He hasn't been utilized like he was after Hunt left either. Then he gets hurt. Show me a running back by committee team where every back is performing like an All-Pro? The purpose of running backs by committee is to keep the lead back fresh through the whole season......not that all three or four backs are going to gain 100 yds each week!!!!

Give Damian the starter role back and he'll produce. This talk of him being a waste is just plain BS!
If Damien Williams would actually produce, then we wouldn't have a RB by committee. Its plain as day that they want to use Williams even if he's shitty. Williams averages 11 touches per game receiving and rushing and is only averaging 3.3 yards a touch. That's so horrendously bad that I can't even believe he's still even getting touches.

This post is just so ****ing stupid. His love affair with Shady? You do realize Shady is actually producing and he's getting less touches than Williams. I was 100% against Shadys signing, but thank ****ing God he's here. Reids love affair with Williams is what is actually hurting the team. 3.3 yards per touch for Williams vs 5.7 yards per touch for McCoy and you think using McCoy is hurting the team, because it takes touches away from Williams?

The O line has really been the problem in the running game, the back ups have generally done okay in pass protection but have been garbage in the run game, so the sample sizes for the running back by committee approach are so small it's hard to really tell anything, other than the O line cannot open holes for anyone.

Damien is an average to below average rusher, and Shady is better, but the reason Damien is on the team is because his speed makes him a great match up in the passing game. Schematically he's a great fit for Reid, and you can't always only put him on the field when you're trying to pass for obvious reasons so you have to let him do his average rushing sometimes.
He hasn't even been good in the passing game though. Read my first reply. Not gonna type it all out again. He's just not good at all.

I was one of those people that thought he'd be serviceable, because we don't really need an elite RB with this offense. But he hasn't even been in the same realm as serviceable. He's been really really bad, like worst starting RB this team has ever. I went back almost 30 years and he's by far the worst starter since then. That's with Andy Reid coaching and Patrick Mahomes throwing the ball. We've had some bad bad bad teams in those 30 years and those guys did just fine. Good thing the extension doesn't pay him much, cuz he should be cut. He's a liability.

Oh - I agree that he's been bad. I also felt that his performance down the stretch last year was an outlier, rather than a sign of things to come. Said as much too.

That’s taking a lot of games into account where he either wasn’t playing or had no targets though.

If we look at just the games since Hunts been gone:
2018: 5 games started, 7 games played, 33 Rec, 251 yards, 4 TDS
2019: 3 games started, 5 games played, 15 Rec, 115 yards, 1 TD

12 games played, 8 started with 48 rec, 366 yards, 5 TDS isn’t bad at all.

I'm blown away Damien is even still on this team, I cant believe he's ****ing starting. He is not an NFL caliber RB ( at this point). Never watched him before he got here, so no idea about before.

He just had 9 carries for 7 yards. SEVEN yards.

2 receptions for NEGATIVE 1 yards

He touched the ball 11 times for a total gain of 6 yards...

Well if you want to look at games in which he was on the field for at least 1 snap, he still averages only 8.2 ypr. The amount of games he plays has no affect on his yards per reception. It will have an affect on his ypg, which is 13.6, if you look at games in which he had an offensive snap. You can't really just games in which he had a target, because those other players I mentioned had games where they weren't targeted, so it really wouldn't be fair to do it that way. If he was good he'd have more targets.

Look at his production in the games he has started for the Chiefs. This is regular season only.

2018 3 GS - 14 Rec/119 YDs/8.5 YPR
2019 3 GS - 12 Rec/92 YDs/ 7.7 YPR

Total 6 GS - 26 Rec/211 YDs/8.1 YPR

He's just average at catching the ball and since defenses have had some tape on him running now, then they stop him easily. He's garbage overall.

Damien hasn’t hit a hole worth a damn that I can remember all season. At this point I’d kick the tires on ajayai and see if we can find a guy who can do something between the tackles even though our line sucks. He didn’t have an elite line in Miami and was decent there, and he knows the eagles system a little, could slot in fast and produce.

Shady's cuts are looking really explosive lately. Great vision the other day finding his gaps. Gonna need that with defenses taking away the run game to force Moore into passing downs.
