Biking Question

I have a Road Bike which I really enjoy riding. I am wanting to branch out a little and take up Gravel and maybe Cyclocross. I have tried MTB, and just didn't care for it.

Any suggestions, tips etc? I am looking at the Salsa Warbird and Trek line of bikes right now.

Stick with the Specialized. Trek is the giant corporation that screws the little guy over. They practically bankrkupted Greg LeMond because he said that Lance Armstrong was doping. This is the clean version.

There's nothing like riding a silent bike.

Please for the love of god, never use WD40 on a bike's gears. That stuff will not protect anything, in fact it draws dirt like a magnet to the dang bike.

Most bike shops will provide 2 free tune ups during the first 12 months of ownership, because the cables will stretch over time with use and will need adjusting to keep that silky smooth shifting going.

Wondering if I should even consider that Trek 820 bike or if this Specialized Rockhopper is the best option.
If you're going to ride a lot of pavement, go with a 29er. You'll do less pedaling to cover the same distance. The 27.5 bikes are targeted towards cyclists who want to bomb up and down mountains fast, as they tend to be more nimble in tight spaces. 29ers are a little more cumbersome going up hill but really smooth out the ride due to the larger wheel diameters.

You want to be able to lock out your suspension on smooth surfaces for a better ride. Like Bug said, most have that feature but definitely not all.

Not even close to true... but yearh. Fitness and climbing has become almost an afterthought at times with the Enduro/Downhill direction that MTB has taken. And descending technical terrain has gotten much easier with modern geometry and suspension. With e-bikes, that's probably only going to get more true.

I still love climbing, though. But I also really love going fast downhill through technical terrain.

A little local bike porn, as we're hosting Outerbike this week in NWA and have lots of pros here. Seth was here all week and posting a bunch. Here's Brian Lopes getting sendy on some of our new trail:

My 11 year old decided to hit a "legendary" drop today for around here. I think he may be the youngest kid in our area to do it at this point (he has a friend who is slightly younger than him who will likely hit it now... so his reign will be brief).
