Prepaying for Gas State law?
I was talking to a gas station attendant and he told me that Prepaying gas is a state law now. (Missouri)

Everywhere I go now is prepay.

I didn't know it was a law, I just figured they did it since they raised the price high enough that the normal person wasn't carrying that much cash on them.

I basically prepay because I never use cash, I always charge my gas to my check card. I am trying to eliminate the need for cash so someone will start a thread about getting rid of all currency instead of just pennies. So I guess in my own small way I am contributing to the BB.

I've been told out here in NC that the police have ASKED gas station owners to make cash customers prepay because they are tired of responding to drive offs. It's not the law though. Gas station owners are more than happy to comply, especially if they have a scapegoat to blame the inconvenience on.

Law enforcement only minds pursuing the drive-offs because more often than not, the asshole business management declines to press charges when they catch the dirtbag.

To a lot of people, there' not much point in paying when the worst that can happen is that you have to turn around and go back to pay.
