I've had the Ryobi 40V for about 3 years and am pleased with its performance. My wife likes it too because it is light weight and easily maneuverable. I was getting about 1.67 yards mowed per charge - so picked up a 2nd battery to switch out. I did have a battery go dead and Ryobi replaced it free of charge.

Not sure, never counted.
I mow every two weeks and hit the edges with my Ryobi weed whacker. It usually takes about 30-45min to complete the job.

I use one on my yard (6500 sq ft). I also have battery the powered trimmer and blower. I have three batteries. If I stay on top of work and don't let the grass grow to tall I can mow, trim, edge and blow in 1 hr. Battery lasts 20-40 mins based on the strain the machine is under.
We have two chargers and between the three batteries there's always a charged up battery. Take about 20 min to charge a battery. I have the Lowe's Kobalt brand 80 volt system. This will be our third year using them. Only issue are the back wheels on the mower have started to wobble (bearings have worn out). Its an easy fix to install new wheels. |

I have a half acre so got a riding mower or I'd have tried electric. I do have an electric trimmer which works ok.
I tell you what though, 20-25 minutes to get half an acre done is nice. ok, back to your electric talk.

As for mowers, I have been curious about the battery-powered ones myself for many of the same reasons already mentioned. I have had a Kobalt 40v trimmer and pole saw that I really like. I just moved over Thanksgiving and we have a lot more land now so I had to get a riding mower. I haven't mowed yet so we'll see. But I think there might be some smaller, intricate areas where I'll still need the push mower. My gas powered mower still works but it may not for long.

And besides, I never mow my lawn when it is wet now.

I went all in on the Ryobi 40v ecosystem a couple years ago, and for my relatively small yard (maybe 2500 sf of grass), it works great. The mower battery usually lasts me 2 mows, so no issues at all getting through it at least once. I also have the edge trimmer, hedge trimmer, and leaf blower, all of which came with a battery, so I have backups just in case I forget to charge one of them.
If you have a very large yard, it might not be ideal, but for small-ish yards, it's great. No oil or gas to deal with, no annual maintenance...it's a game changer for me. We also have lots of air quality issues out here in Denver, so it's nice to not be contributing to the smog with a gas mower. |

No. Ideally you would leave it between 20-80% charged if you're not going to be using it for a while (to maximize life), but for the most part, you just pop it in in the spring and go.

The electrics do have surprising power.
I also use a battery chainsaw, 18". Works great, runs about 20-30 minutes of hard cutting. Dropped and trimmed 3 medium size trees today, 12 to 18 inch diameter. |
