4 GB RAM
1 x 250GB HDD

New specs:
4 x Intel(R) Xeon(R) CPU 5148 @ 2.33GHz
12GB RAM
2 x 250GB HDD

Sometimes, sometimes not. Intel manufactures several in the industry, generally Compaq or IBM buy the naming rights, the 3040 and 5148 are what (intel calls) 'step codes' - it's basically a way to BUY Intel's product even if Compaq or IBM have renamed them, the ones that Intel sell are 'generally' way cheaper than that of IBM and Compaq/HP. The codes mean something else as well which is way above my head.

Sometimes they will make the chips specifically for certain servers, yes. But generally 'NO'

Hopefully that's not a cloud-O-dust.

Shit man maybe I should volunteer to run CP on my new server I'm building...but somehow I doubt I'd have the bandwidth to serve this place!

Depending upon how it's configed I'd bet the ram will show the biggest gains. That's going to be a ncie step up!
