DV interview: Bell won't play this week

I heard clips on 610.

Said it's his shoulder, but wouldn't give any details...mainlyl sounded like he was blowing smoke.

allow me one paragraph of panic:

[panic]Bell hasn't had contact since last season. What injury does he have that is miraculously going to heal in 2 weeks, without surgery?

This offseason looks a lot different if you think of Bell as a cripple. We didn't sign Rolle because of his narrow urethra, but we signed Bell and he still can't handle contact on his shoulder??

I am concerned. Without him our defense upgrade doesn't look near as impressive.[/panic]

ok, going to take a deep breath now

WTF is going on with Bell?

First it was his back, now they're saying it's his shoulder?
That wasn't even why he was damaged goods last season is it?

Don't sweat it...I am pretty confident we will get close to two quarters out of him in the first game before he misses the remainder of the season. It's a good thing they didn't go after Hartwell when you can get a really fast guy that never plays.

There is 0 reason to panic its early in the exhibition season. They're just blowing smoke to get him some extra rest, there's really no reason for him to be banging around in preseason games.

By the way if you think Bell is a chump, I'd hate to see what you think of the rest of our defense.

HA - EXACTLY! I was sooooo against signing this guy for this exact reason. Caught much hell for expressing my opinion too. Wonder why he signed so quickly with us?

So you'd have rather had Ed Hartwell starting in the middle so we could all sit here and freak out about not having OLB's. When we signed Bell there was also 0 thought of us getting Johnson at that time.

I think most of the players on our _efense are chumps, Furthermore they have earned that distinction. What would you call them?

The are holding him out alright but not because everything is ready to go....The fact he has missed so much time the last two seasons he would be the one player they most want to get some contact to get him back into football shape.

Bell didn't pass the NY Giants physical...There obviously was reason for that. My guess the Chiefs will come out looking like the usual morons in the front office over this. Hope I am wrong but sure as hell isn't looking good.

IIRC he passed, It was a BS leaked story that he didn't. Also, IIRC, he only missed 1 season and that was due to a groin problem.

And let's also remember, he is playing in an entirely different defense than he has played in before, so he needs the preseason to get comfortable with the scheme on the football field.

Absolutely - and I said so before the signing. My reasoning was pretty simple - There was no injury question with Hartwell and we were weaker at MLB IMO. We went for the cheapest deal, which would offer the most return, IF Bell were healthy. He is not so the "cheap" deal ends up being expensive.

Kendrell Bell played in 44 of 48 games going into last season. So where is this idea that he's missed 2 complete seasons coming from? Injuries are a part of football people get hurt it happens. I think freaking out about a guy not playing for precautionary reasons in games that don't count is a bit much.

As far as Hartwell goes, I'm not a big fan of his. He's a decent tackler but he's slow as sin. He's not that physically gifted plus he made his name playing next to one of the best players in the league with other star players surrounding him. Kendrell Bell was the most talented FA LB this year.

Just for arguement sake if we had signed Hartwell instead of Bell. We'd all be sitting here flipping out about OLB because Fox and Fujita were highly unimpressive the other night.

I think the situation is better right now with Bell than it would be with Hartwell just my opinion though I guess.
