Chiefs Asked a High School for Equipment as a Back-Up Plan

Interesting last minute back-up plan that the Chiefs developed this past weekend for their missing equipment situation:

Link to full article: https://www.cbssports.com/nfl/news/c...didnt-show-up/

Quote:
Since there was no guarantee that the equipment was going to make it back to Gillette Stadium on time, the Chiefs came up with a contingency plan: They were going to borrow helmets from a local high school team.

It wasn't an ideal plan, but for the Chiefs, it was better than forfeiting. Once that plan was hatched, Masconomet Regional High School Athletic Director John Daileanes got a mysterious call from a representative of the Riddell Helmet company on Sunday asking for an interesting favor.

"He told me, 'I really don't have too much time to talk," Daileanes told the Metro West Daily News. "'But a bunch of the Kansas City Chiefs helmets and shoulder pads and other equipment are in Newark, New Jersey right now. There's a big snafu. I need to get down to Masco, and if it's possible could we use your helmets for the game?'"

There's actually a good reason the Chiefs wanted to borrow the helmets from Masconomet, and that's because the school's logo is eerily similar to Kansas City's. If the Chiefs had been forced to wear the Masconomet helmets, it wouldn't have been completely noticeable to viewers at home (Both teams wear a red helmet with an arrowhead decal, but Kansas City's arrowhead has a KC in the middle while Masconomet's has an "M").

If you're wondering whether or not a high school helmet would fit an NFL player, Daileanes had that same thought.

"They had a contingency plan in place to use our helmets. Who knows whether or not these helmets would even fit properly," Daileanes said. "There's a way to kind of make them fit. But I don't know. It would have been great. I just wanted to see one random Masco helmet. I thought that would have been pretty classic, but it never came to fruition."

In the end, the Chiefs didn't have to wear the high school helmets, because their equipment ended up arriving at Gillette Stadium about an hour before kickoff thanks to a police escort.

It brings up several questions.

1) How awesome would that be?
2) Would the NFL have allowed it?
3) Would Massholes have burned the place to the ground?

With all the crap that went on this off-season about approved helmets I don't see anyway the NFL would have allowed that. Hell, most of the helmets are custom fit. Can you imagine the shit storm that would've happened if a player got hurt wearing a HS helmet?

Crazy. Doubt it would have actually worked. I find it odd that we couldn't store shit at the stadium because of a high school football game.

This. If that was the case, there needs to be an NFL rule allowing the visitors to be able to set up their equipment at stadiums the night before.

Patriots probably scheduled that on purpose to make sure the Chiefs would be rushing stuff on Sunday morning.

****ing cheaters.

I don't think the issue was storing it. The issue was they didn't unpack and look at what they had due to the game. They just didn't realize until very late that it was missing because of the game.

Yeah, that would have been pretty cool. It would have been evidence in some CTE lawsuits down the road, but it would've been cool.

Oh, and it's 100 percent that it was intentional by the Patriots or some braindead 'patriots fans' who work at the airport. This type of stuff doesn't happen when ethical teams are playing. It always happens in Patriots games and always tilts in the Patriots' favor. Equipment is missing, radios don't work, fire alarms go off in team hotels...come on. Their cheating has moved far beyond competition and now lives in the realm of evil and malice.

Way back in 2009, I was an assistant coach for a rich kid’s public high school, while deciding what to do next. When not deployed, it was something I had always done while in the USMC.

The school helmets were junk. I got permission and pursued a deal with xenith. https://www.xenith.com/pages/football-helmets

When we were then really starting to take TBI differently. At the freshmen parents meeting, I showed them the data and helmet differences. Freshmen always get the leftovers of course. I did not let the rep speak.

Took the idea from other programs, it wasn’t original. I know at least 1 local KC school did it before 2009.

The deal was if they bought a xenith helmet, their kid(s) would always have 1 but the helmet stayed with the team. If their kid got a big head, long cornrows, etc.- we guaranteed a properly fitted xenith helmet over 4 years. Rich kids. Most parents bought one.

The league would have postponed the game until the equipment arrived... The shit storm a forfeit would have caused would have been devastating for the league.
