AFC West Week 4 Projections

AFC West Week 4

Sitting atop the AFC West at 3-0 with an already commanding 2 game lead in the division are the Kansas City Chiefs. This week, The Chiefs are on the road for the 3rd time in the first 4 weeks of the season. To add to the challenge of the road games, the Chiefs have faced fierce defenses in Jacksonville and against the Ravens, as well as a strong defensive effort in Oakland. Despite that, the Chiefs have reeled off 40, 28, and 33 points respectively, to keep alive their NFL record streak of consecutive games with 26+ points. The defense is a work in progress, but has already shown improvement over last season and has allowed the offense to pretty much coast through the second half of every game so far. Lamar Jackson was lighting up teams in his first 2 games averaging 250+ yards per game to his top 2 receivers, yet the Chiefs held them under 100 yards combined.
This week, the opponent is the Detroit Lions led by former Patriot DC Matt Patricia. Patricia currently has the Lions undefeated with a 2-0-1 record. Their opponents have been the 1-2 Chargers(perennial preseason SB favorites), the 2-2 Eagles, and the 0-2-1 Cardinals. This versus the record of the Jaguars(1-2), Raiders(1-2), and Ravens(2-1). So, the records of prior opponents is relatively close.
Being a former Patriot assistant, I expect to see him throw some of the same defensive looks at Mahomes that the Patriots did last year. I bet that he doesn't hold the offense down for an entire half, but i wouldn't be surprised if the Chiefs offense doesn't struggle some early. Their offense doesn't concern me. I expect our defense to have it's best game to date.

Score prediction Chiefs 35- Lions 20. Mahomes 30/34 362 Yards, 4 TD's

Second place in the division at 1-2 is held by the Chargers and Raiders. The Chargers began week 1 with an overtime win against the Luck-less Colts(2-1), then followed that up with losses to the Lions(2-0-1), and the Texans(2-1). So, they have faced quality opponents, but aren't Superbowl favorites like the Chargers supposed to beat quality opponents? I guess that you could blame injuries to Hunter Henry, Derwin James, and the Gordon holdout. But the Chiefs have lost Fisher, Hill, and Williams and just keep rolling. Excuses are for losers.
This week, the Chargers are in luck. They get a free win against the tanking for Tua Dolphins who have been outscored an embarrassing 133-16 through the first 3 games. Chargers get and easy win here to pull back to .500

Score Prediction: Chargers 35, Dolphins 6 Rivers goes 30/35 for 288 yards and 3 TD. Melvin Gordon pulls his hamstring scoring a garbage time TD in the last 5 minutes.

Also at 1-2 are the Faiders. The Faiders started out looking like Gruden had turned them around. They defeated the division rival Donks(0-3) 24-16. The Faiders were confident heading into week 2, when they hosted the Chiefs(3-0) for the final time in the black hole. They started out strong, taking an early lead. But then Reid unleashed Mahomes for a 28 point 2nd quarter to effectively end the game at halftime. Both teams went scoreless in the second half as the Chiefs coasted to victory. Week 3, the Faiders traveled to Minnesota to face the Vikings(2-1) and got blown out 34-14.
This week, they travel to Indy to face to Colts(2-1), who have looked pretty good with Jacoby Brissett under center. Don't look for the Fade to get back to .500 this week.

Score prediction: Colts 27, Faiders 20. Carr 17/25 192 yards 1 TD, 2 Int

And, at the bottom the division, we find the lowly Donks with an abysmal 0-3 record. The Donks have lost to the Faiders(1-2), Bears(2-1), and the Packers(3-1). Now, those are some quality opponents, so not a lot of shame in losing to those teams, except.....They haven't had a sack or a turnover in a single game. Aaron Rodgers mocked them by bragging about never having his jersey so clean after a game. He was ready to go out on the town because he was feeling good from not getting hit. This is a defense led by the great Vic Fangio with pass rushing stalwarts VonDouchebag and Bradley Chubb as well as Chris Harris patrolling the field. Where is the no fly zone now? It's pretty sad that Nick Chubb, a running back, has as many sacks through 3 weeks as Bradley Chubb. This team is a dumpster fire. I'm actually rooting for them to win now because I don't want them picking in the top 5.
This week the Donks face the Jaguars(1-2). It is a team with a losing record, and it's in the thin air of pile high, so maybe they have a chance to get their first win of the season. But, I just don't see it happening. Will the defense be able to lay a hand on Gardner Minshew? I doubt it. But, I do expect the Jags defense to get to statue quarterback Flacco several times. Donks fall to 0-4

Score Prediction: Jags 28. Donks 9 Flacco 17/28 152 yards, 0TD, 2 int, 1 fumble.
