I did six albums on the last year for the biggest music library production company in the world. ALL 80's rock. Glam, Arena, Ballads, etc.

They gave me specific examples but the tracks had to be at least 10 beats per minute faster or slower and be in a completely different key, but still invoke the original. A verified musicologist had to sign off on every track, to avoid copyright infringement and I had to redo probably ten of the 72.

Suffice to say, many of those tracks are just killing it for us. The Def Leppard tracks are already doing well but so are the Whitesnake, Ratt, Priest and Skid Row (the Monkey Business track came out bad ass).

Anyway, despite what people say, rock is not dead.

Rock may not be dead, but there aren't too many current rock bands that can sell out big venues anymore. It's been compartmentalized, and isn't what it once was. I'm fine with that, there are tons of unsigned/ smaller market bands that are easily as good as the garbage the radio feeds the masses as you well know.

But if you turn on basically any reality tv channel, whether it's Discovery, Spike, Bravo, HGTV, eat al, or any sporting event, whether it's NFL, MLB, NHL and in some cases, NBA, all you hear is rock music during the highlights, commercial breakaways and comebacks, etc.

The concert scene, outside of the superstar acts, isn't what it was 20 or 30 years ago but it hasn't disappeared and never will.

EDM doesn't play as an underscore.

You are probably right. I rarely pay much attention to that stuff but I'd say you're right. I guess growing up in a different age I just remember all the "arena rock" bands thy could fill stadiums in every city they played. I guess it's less about filling arenas and more about people buying singles etc now a days. I must be a dinosaur and just realized it lol.

Rock is far from dead as you said. You just have to look a little harder for it at times.

Rival Sons, Jonathon Tyler, Volbeat (fairly mainstream) and many other bands are a blast and write great music.

May be a theme for another thread altogether, people posting songs from their favorite rock bands others likely dont listen to.
