Why don’t more teams do this?
So I looked up Shady’s best game from last year, which was in New York against the Jets.
I’m watching the game, and of course he looks great — and Claiborne looks good for the Jets so it’s kind of nice. Buffalo is wrecking the Jets here, and halfway through the 2nd quarter they go up 24-0 by throwing to their right tackle, who was eligible. The defense had nobody on him, despite the fact he was eligible. The DE who zipped by him didn’t realize he was becoming a receiver until it was too late. Which is a way to freeze up DEs, isn’t it? Claim your tackles as eligible receivers, whether they are or not, and force DEs to second guess themselves if they whizz by the tackles. I don’t know, it probably wouldn’t be much of an advantage. But why not just always declare your OL as eligible? What does it cost? Why not do it every single time and have that one thing always in your pocket? |
