He is for now, maybe after a few years in a lesser "quality control" type position he'll get another shot... but not until this stink is a distant memory.

He's currently "leading" one of the all-time worst units.

Daboll is exactly what his resume said he would be. The overwhelming majority of us knew it was a horrible hire. The guy had been fired from 2 OC positions in 3 seasons.

It's one thing to fail by choosing an unknown path such as Haley in a HC position. It's something entirely different to fail by bringing in these guys that already have a track record of being terrible.

This all day long. Jimmy Raye is a better OC and THAT's saying something. Daboll is supposed to be very intelligent - maybe IQ wise he is, but he's an absolute IDIOT at calling games.

Yep...two 3rd down plays from yesterday's game that I can recall:

1. 3rd & 12 and we run a screen pass that didn't work

2. 3rd & 6 where we need a first down and we throw a bomb down the field that we had no chance at completing

Pioli got another stooge - period. All this crap from folks that are trying to say "Well you can't prove that he sucks" is just backwards logic. I shouldn't have to prove that the hire sucks, you should have to prove that it's good. This is an NFL coordinator's job, for ****'s sake. This isn't some High School assistant coach's gig - but one of 32 guys that coordinate offenses at this level. Presumably one of the 32 best in the entire ****ing world at running an offense.

What we've seen is that the results this guy has provided are, at best, substandard. More accurately - they're horrid. And sure, he's had some bad situations, but you're still just providing me with more excuses there. It's just more "Matt Cassel needs more time" bullshit. I don't need to see a bunch of reasons why he might not be awful; I need to see some explanations as to why he might be good. So far the best I have is "well he scored some points with a mediocre QB and made Reggie Bush look good". Folks - Reggie Bush is insanely talented, he just couldn't stay on the field. Figuring out a way to make someone with Bush's speed and athleticism doesn't impress me.

No, this hire isn't a good one. In fact, it's a bad one because it was made for the wrong reasons. Scott Pioli didn't look for someone that could come in here and score the most points given the freedom to choose his own QB and run his own system. No, Scott Pioli hired what he perceives to be the best available option to make Matt Cassel look better.

And frankly, I don't give a large rat's ass who Scott Pioli perceives to be the best available coach for any situation. All he seems capable of doing is hiring guys that Bill Belichick hired first and hoping they suck slightly less than the last BB castoff.

I've simply lost interest in this team. The way it's being run, the reasons decisions are made - all of it. There just isn't a single thing about this franchise that makes it fun to root for. They're a black-hat franchise that also happens to get mediocre results. They're not even loveable losers - it's just a bunch of transparent egomaniacs that are more interested in being right than being successful.

Like I said - it's just incredibly disappointing.
I think my rant wins this thread. But I might be biased.

Smart coordinators are deceptive and unpredictable. Much like chess, they will call plays for the purpose of setting you up for another play later in the game. They will put pressure on one or more players they find substandard and target them.

Daboll just kinda... calls plays. I don't think there's any strategy to it. "Let's run the ball until it's a 3rd and long, then we'll pass it" isn't really a strategy.

What a bad hire. He's worse than Solari.

To me, it seems he look at his call sheet, calls the play that fits down and distance, without regard for a future purpose (i.e. calling multiple slants for the X to set up a Sluggo Seam). I watched the same play call last weekend happen 3 times.

We lined up in a hvy Rt flip (but with our TEs off the line and our WRs on it, and had our TE (Maneri IIRC) motion in on a YIP (Y motion to block). Then we called a toss to motion side.

We did this 3 times for IIRC a 4-5 yd gain the 1st time, a 2 yd gain the second time, and then it got blown up for a loss the 3rd time.

I don't care if we brought in the second coming of Bill Walsh. Anybody working with Cassel and Quinn this year was destined to fail. You have to throw out so much of the playbook when working with a QB who has so few talents.

And yet Haley got more out of him last season.

The worst thing Pioli ever did for Matt was fire Haley. He got the best out of him.

Then yuo tell your HC that you can't win with that guy and he can't execute and then you play Stanzi or find someone adequate.

Personally, I feel bad for Daboll to some extent b/c I'm sure he would do better with a better QB (as would all OCs). At some point though, you'd like to think he put his foot down and said "Cassel can't execute. We play Quinn. If he can't execute, we play Stanzi or trade for a QB that can"

Now, he might have said this and been ****ed over. I don't know. I do know that I really am not sure that I want Daboll back.

Haley wasn't a fail; if he woulda had a halfway-competant GM we would be gearing up for another playoff run right now.

Does that scenario sound even remotely familiar??

Insert Palko for Quinn and it's 2011 and the coach putting his foot down gets fired, ya know??

^This.

Of course, I think Haley was eventually gonna say '**** it' and beat Cassel's ass on the sideline.
