Tua's concussions are a bad look for the league

The Dolphin's bumbling of Tua's concussions earlier this year and him ending up in the protocol again is getting a lot of run in the mainstream media, not just sports media. It's a black eye for the league and I expect a big over correction from the NFL next year. I won't be surprised if they do a major overhaul on the protocol. I can see a scenario where they make players sit out multiple games after any concussion symptoms, even if they test out okay. It's going to suck when teams are majorly impacted because of it. It's going to be a shitshow and we can thank the Dolphins for it because of their incompetent staff.

The NFLPA can talk about player safety all they want, but their rank and file members are not going to tolerate being forced to sit out lengthy amounts of time when they feel fine and are passing all of the existing concussion tests.

Especially when that means potentially losing their starting jobs, salary bonuses, etc.

If the NFL actually gave a shit about player safety they would address their selective officiating when it comes to "roughing the passer" and/or "unnecessary roughness" calls, or any call for that matter.

Ironically, with the league setting the conditions for passing offenses to thrive, they now risk damage to the money-making-faces-of-the league by exposing them to more and more hits, whereas in a run dominated league they would be more protected.

But, the NFLPA wont stand for their players not playing, limits the revenue stream

According to Merrril Hoge, CTE from concussions is in the investigative stage and is not a medical diagnosis. Says CTE has be diagnosed (post mortem) in many people (NFL, non-NFL and people who never played sports at all).
