Dick also was quoted as saying "I wish he was the player he used to be."
This could have been posted in my quote on Holmes, but Grunny deserves a post of his own. We knew this day was coming when they signed Weigman to play center, but it still hurts.
It sounds like they have no intention of re-signing Grunhard. I will miss his great play and effort. Best of luck to him where-ever he ends up.

Everything I've read about Weigmann states that he's not as good of a run blocker as Grunhard. But, he's a better athlete than Timmie. Like many of you, I hate to see somebody like Grunhard leave the team. It's a rare thing in modern day free agency when you have a high quality player play the entire tenure of his career in one city. I wish Tim luck in whatever he chooses in his post football career.

As keg in KC pointed out.... Outside Trezell Jenkins the Chiefs have been pretty successful at evaluating O-Line talent. Jeff Criswell and Glenn Parker come to mind as recent FA acquisitions.

Weigmann reminds me a lot of Denvers type of O-Linemen. He's smaller than average. But, what he lacks in size, he makes up for with intelligence and athleticism.

Grunhard is beat up and isnt effective as he once was. Dont expect the new guy to be any better though. If the Bears dont want him, why would anybody else? This reminds me of when Todd Sauerbrun was let go by the Bears and signed by the Chiefs. Most Chief fans were delighted with that. Now, after another mediocre season, Sauerbrun is looking for another job and the Chiefs signed another free agent punter. Carl's recent track record in free agency is poor.

If somehow, Carl signed Manning and James, old Fudgepacker would find a negative.

KCRED,

No I wouldnt, but fact is, you wont see players of that caliber available via free agency. There really isnt much available in free agency besides washed up journeymen that arent wanted by their previous teams.

The Chiefs drafted Grunhard, maybe they ought to think about getting a center somewhere in this years draft. He would certainly come a lot cheaper. MOST General Managers would agree that you build from within, not from the free agent pool.

Here's what NFLDigest has to say about him:
Wiegmann, Casey Chicago Bears 6-3 290

Has good size and plays with a tenacious nature…Moves well for his size and generally holds up in pass protection…Is not overly strong as an in-line run blocker, but is respectable as a movement run blocker…Makes up for a lack of skills by battling guys to the whistle…Works hard…Solid backup who has been an adequate starter at times.
Sounds like a pretty good fit for what I think our system will be...

Here's what they had to say about Grunny, which I consider pretty accurate:
Grunhard, Tim Kansas City Chiefs 6-2 307

Veteran who is a tough guy…Good straight-ahead run blocker…Has problems in pass protection against quicker defenders…Extremely nasty guy on the field…Needs to be surrounded by good players…Still one the better centers in the league, but is beginning to slip a little…Wear and tear has gotten to him…Questionable if he has enough left to make it through another effective season because he is declining physically and injuries nagged him all season.
I'll keep looking, maybe be able to dig up some more info...
