Life Annoying customer

Some of you may remember I work at an awards store. We do trophies, plaques, crystal & acrylic awards, etc. Well a couple weeks ago, we did an order for a high school band here. They wanted about 150 of these 8 inch eagle resin figures with plates on each one. However, they wanted them to be all white, to match a bigger eagle statue they have. So we told them we could get our manufacturer to spraypaint all of these eagle resins white, and that they may not be 100% perfect, but it was all we could do to get close to what they wanted.

So we got the 150 white spraypainted resins, did all the nameplates for them, and the person that worked for the high school picked them up, paid for them, and said they looked great. Then I guess the high school sold them to the parents of the band students for 10 dollars more. We sold them for 18 dollars a piece to the school, and the school sold them for 28 dollars a piece to the parents of the kids.

Yesterday, one of the parents came in with one of the statues. She was red hot pissed because at the bottom of the eagle statue, where it is glued onto the black marble base thing, you could see some of it didn't quite get covered with the white paint. Also the name plate on the base was slightly crooked. I apologized and told her I could easily fix the plate and if she gave us a couple hours, we could touch up the paint.

Well that wasn't good enough for her. She said she couldn't believe we would let something of this quality leave our store, and that we should all be ashamed (there was another girl working the front counter at the time, I only came up to deal with the disgruntled customer who asked for the manager. I'm not a manager, but I'm sorta in charge when my dad is gone, which he was).

I apologized up and down and told her I would fix it for her free of charge, and she said there were a couple other parents who were unhappy with them as well. She wouldn't leave or be happy with anything I was saying. She asked for my name and the other girls name that was working up front. She wanted to leave her number and have the owner contact her. So I took down her info, gave her our names, and as she was walking away I somewhat sarcastically said "Have a fantastic day!". She glared back at me and then sat in her car in front of our front door and glared in at us for about an hour.

What really pisses me off about this is that she didn't even buy anything from us. She bought it from the school. The school was happy with them. This bitch was also about 380 pounds. So my boss calls her later in the day and she demands that me and our front counter girl lose our jobs. My dad told her basically the same thing I told her. We were sorry she wasn't happy with it and that we would fix it for her free of charge. Unbelievable people out there.

That's the end of my rant. I just had to vent. Sorry about this.

that's a bummer story dude. You have to figure this lady has other issues and you all just happen to be her easiest target. She probably has little self esteem, her hubby has probably left her or treats her like crap, she probably has other bad personal relationships, and she probably isn't the best parent either.

When people take little things and make them big deals (like this instance) it probably means that the big things in her life are a mess and she feels she has no control over them. JMHO of course.

Some customers will never be happy no matter how much u bend over. Contrary to popular belief, the customer is not always right. In certain cases it's In a business,s best interest to cut their losses short instead of dealing with the headaches.

yup, people suck dude! You lose faith in humanity real quick when you work directly with any sort of customer. Glad I don't do that anymore, I don't think I'd be able to take it these days.

I agree. In this case, she didn't actually purchase anything from us. So it isn't like I could just give her money back or anything. I offered to fix her award for free, and I didn't even really have to do that. I'm guessing she is a real bitch, and she originally went to whoever bought these that works for the school. They probably had enough of her and pawned her off on us.

my God. I remember this fat lady who came in with shit all over her shirt and she just started going off. YOU GUYS MADE THAT BIG MAC SO MESSY THAT IT GOT ALL OVER ME WHILE I WAS DRIVING IN MY CAR TRYING TO EAT IT. I said, they aren't designed for eating while you drive but we'll be happy to make you a new one 'mam. ****ing bitch, I hope she's dead by now.

For the most part, a lot of our customers are pretty cool. Everything we do at our store is custom, with varied text on each award usually. So we're not perfect. Mistakes happen, though I'm very good at not making them on my end, which is engraving. Sometimes we're late on completing orders. Most people are laid back when things don't go perfectly according to plan, but on rare occasions people will take a simple mistake that we made and then believe that we owe them the world on a golden platter.
