Your price idea while interesting has failed in my experience in another forum long ago. I used to hang out for years in a hunting forum and it was a blast 24/7. After a few years, the administrator decided to charge a nominal fee to enter the forum. It was cheap like $20.00/year. It was suggested it would keep the riff riff out and clean things up for the serious folks. I paid for the first year because I really enjoyed the forum and learned quite a bit about numerous issues however I quickly found that many of the best posters refused to stay because they simply didn't believe in needing to subscribe to an Internet forum. Suddenly the forum wasn't as fun or busy as it once was and soon enough, there would only be a handful of posts a day. Maybe one dozen tops. It grew stagnant and I left after a few months. A handful of folks found other forums and a few started a FB group but I never did find a hunting/outdoors forum that ever replaced original forum that was as fun and high octane.
Shocker.

People don't want to pay for something that they previously got for free. It is like when a woman sleeps with a guy all the time yet wonders why he won't make her his girlfriend. Why buy the cow when you get the milk for free?

Basic human nature.

Which naturally leads to, "why should i trust your knowledge over mine?" "what ulterior motives do you have?"

We can't just dismiss people as crazy all the time. Science, naturally is ever changing. The whole nature of science is to question, change and adapt. So we shouldn't just dismiss those who fly against main stream thought. Truth is that it's a healthy and necessary part of society.

I voted to let DC roll. Its up to the mods to not let it leak into the Lounge
Yeah, that is the issue. Franchise is mad about the Media Center being "contaminated" but the reality is, the woke stuff is in the movies themselves. Hollywood screams at the viewer. Sports are placing political slogans on the field.

In fairness, I stop listening anytime someone says 'misinformation' these days.

It's remarkable how often the 'misinformation' being discussed is something they just happen to disagree with.

I'm not sure how anyone can have lived through the last 2 years and still lean into such slanted garbage. It's the new 'fake news' and certainly no more entitled to be given any sort of weight.

I jokingly suggested recently that we let our left-leaning mods pick 5 right-leaning people to ban from DC and our right-leaning mods pick 5 left-leaning people to ban from DC. I'm sure it would fail miserably, but I'm a firm believer that the issue with political discussions is that conversations are dominated by the insane nutjobs on either end of the spectrum. Would be fascinating to try it.

(But we probably won't.)

Well, it doesn't help when it has come out that science has been hijacked by governments, companies, and other groups for their purposes.

Big Tobacco, Big Climate Change, COVID, etc have revealed that data gets twisted around for an agenda. Science isn't as pure as people pretend.

There is nothing with DC.

It is in its own section. You can only enter if you click. Pretty easy to avoid.

And that's not crazy uncommon, either. There really aren't many non-negotiable items in DC, but besides the audio ridiculousness that DC got carried away with, I'd really hope people could agree no one should be ****ed with off the board or relentlessly followed around by weirdos across forums, etc. Yet, it happens and it's a big reason why nuking DC gets brought up.
Just to be clear, you guys really tucked tail on that one, right?

It was illegal to call people p-dos, so you just filtered it and now it's ok to call people the filtered word, as well as groomers, which means the same thing. So now, it's worse than ever.

You say you want to clean up the garbage, but instead of actually enforcing one of the few actual rules, you just shrugged it off and made it worse.

There are several posts in here that are giving this thread the vibe of the “Non-political Covid thread”, where if I were to respond to them I’d get booted from the thread.
