Many infections can cause this.

So can influenza.

I would imagine most people hospitalized with Covid-19 would have at least temporary myocarditis. The milder cases go away without long term damage but the severe cases can cause irreversible damage two days after getting out of the hospital.

Nonetheless, we would want to determine the frequency and severity of this condition in our studies compared to other illnesses. When someone gets hospitalized with other conditions do we determine if they have myocardtis? Nonetheless, it certainly does not bode well for the public perception, though.

My 89 year old grandma caught influenza two years ago, then came down with pneumonia. Felt fine and then died from cardiac arrest from acute myocarditis while trying to go sell antiques. She had no previous heart problems of any kind. No heart attacks. Did not have high blood pressure. For an 89 year old lady was very healthy.
