Chiefs signing CB DeAndre Baker to practice squad

I’ve seen this in a couple spots now, it’s early but here’s this from a NYP journalist... https://twitter.com/nypost_schwartz/...959128576?s=21

Quote:
Giants are not in on DeAndre Baker.
Teams interested: Chiefs, Bengals, 49ers and Jaguars.
This would obviously be a hell of a low risk/high reward move that makes so much sense for a team destined to pick in the 30s.

Heh. Doubtful. But who knows?

Seriously though, I thought Snead was probably drafted to take over for Breeland next season. Of course, I don't have dinner with Veach, so I'm just speculating.

Would be nice to keep him somehow though.

He's more well informed than Keitzman but 810 has this thing where they get super petty wheh teams stop using them. They did it with the Royals and now the Chiefs.

Ward, Breeland, Sneed, Baker, Fenton.

Remember when this was a position of weakness? Next year it will be a strength, if it isn’t already.

I like Breeland but remember he missed the first four games. That stat looks less impressive when you add that in.

Of course its petro so take it with a grain of salt.

According to Craig Stout on Twitter. Not sure he is correct...

“So Baker never officially called up to the active roster, just through PS promotions and COVID replacement. I could be wrong here with all the changes in roster elevations this year, but I don't think KC has full control of his rights in 2021 (ERFA) since he's wasn't on the 53.”

The Chiefs have an opportunity to keep him if they want him.

Chiefs have seen him now for several weeks in practice.

I was not impressed with him in the first game he played on special teams.

His second elevation from the PS, the Chiefs decided not to even play him and he was inactive for the game.

I figure if the Chiefs feel like Deandre Baker is a player they want to keep on team, they sign him to the 53 man active roster this year.

In practice has he been better than Keyes? The coaches will know that.

It will be interesting on Sunday, how much playing time Baker gets.

I read a rumor that Mathieu might be among the first to get cut if the cap goes down. My hope is that Veach can do some Veach-type thing to keep him, because he's the least replaceable player on the defense.

The Cap isn't decreasing and by all accounts, will stay relatively flat in 2021.

The owners could opt to make sure it's exactly the same as 2020 or even spread any loss over the next few seasons but the owners don't want to give the players an "Interest Free" loan.
