How do you define a sports dynasty and what does this current Chiefs team need to do
Been considering this a bit lately. Generally speaking I’d have considered any sports team that wins three championships in a five-ish year period a true dynasty.

The Patriots have two, obviously, early 2000s and then the mid 2010s. Early 90s Cowboys. 49ers in the 80s and Steelers in the 70s, IIRC.

Then I was considering things and wondering what we’d need to accomplish in order to be labeled a dynasty. We’ve currently got the one Super Bowl win from the 2019 season. It’s now the 2022 season.

We’ve hosted four straight AFCCGs in that timespan as well. Does that factor in at all or is it solely based on Super Bowl wins?

I think it does a bit. For example, if we’re able to win the Super Bowl this year, I think I would consider us a dynasty.

But I don’t consider the 90s Bills a dynasty so clearly at least one or two actual Super Bowl wins is a requirement.

What are your thoughts?

I think we all agree to be in the conversation that the Chiefs need to win the Super Bowl this season & they will be in the conversation.

No more Dee Ford brain fart, OL disintegration or bizarro second half AFCCG Mahomes.

Right.

If Chiefs want to take that next step be called a dynasty they need to win SBs. Also, if Mahomes wants to be in the GOAT conversation he needs to win more SBs. Otherwise, Mahomes will just be another Peyton Manning or Rodgers. Nice stats but not enough SB wins to be considered among the greats.

I believe they can do it but it won't be easy.

I wanted to revisit this and get everyone’s thoughts now.

I know many will still claim we have yet to hit dynasty status, claiming we would need three Super Bowl wins within a 5-year span to do it.

.. but idk. I’m torn. I definitely think we could be considered a dynasty at present. I think hosting five straight AFC Championship games and going to three Super Bowls in five years is doing a lot of heavy lifting.

Now that the dust has settled on this season:
AFCCG OT loss
SB Win
SB Loss
AFCCG OT loss
SB win

What do you think? Do you consider this a dynasty or a budding dynasty with more work required to be solidified?

49ers win a SB in Montana's 3rd year in the league. Don't win for the next two seasons, losing a heartbreaker in the Conference Championship along the way.

Win another Lombardi in Montana's 6th season.

This is for sure a dynasty. 2 out of 3 SBs in 5 years and the AFC Championship game at home every one of them?

If Scott Norwood doesn't wide right it, the Bills get one ring. And people I think would call them a dynasty for making the SB four straight times.

This isn't just winning two and then going into the shitter like Denver or the New York Giants did. This is winning two, going to ANOTHER ONE and setting a record for hosting consecutive conference championship games.

There's no hard and fast rule for dynasties. Usually when people think about dynasties, they think of teams that won multiple rings and were absolutely dominating the league for a half decade or more.

That appears to be the case here.

I'm gonna call it a dynasty. National media pundits can **** off with the hard-and-fast rule of IT HAS TO BE 3 RINGS DOH!!!!

I think 6 seasons would be the cutoff. Especially if you're in conference championships every year.

History has shown us that there is a franchise every decade that wins at least 3.

It is already a dynasty. But in terms of what we gotta do?

We have the table set for world domination the next few years. Where we can separate is by dominating a playoff run. Not just being better, flat out dominating. The kind of team we thought we were when we started to get a little too cocky. This was a bridge year and our top competition will slide as we get better and better. Now that we’ve got the repeat monkey off our back let’s go and get a statement championship.
