As for .22s, I fired my first one nearly 50 years ago, when I was still riding a big wheel and playing with my Fisher Price garage. I know people enjoy them, and to each their own, but to me it's just a childhood toy, nothing more than a glorified BB gun. Haven't owned one in decades.

.22 is a fun caliber that is still super cheap to shoot compared to others. I shoot mine pretty regularly. My buddies and I have been doing some target games recently.

Those look like fun!
I just picked this up. Rated For . 38 - . 44 Caliber Pistols: This Steel Target Is Specifically Rated For Soft Nose Lead . 38 - . 44 Caliber Ammunition Only (At A Minimum Of 30 Yards). High Visibility Targets: This Auto Reset Target Features Three Huge 4. 5 Inch Targets, Giving You A Fair Shot At Hitting These High Visibility Target. Reset Without Walking Down Range: The 2 Side Targets Spin And Lock In An Upright Position When Hit. Simply Shoot The Center Reset Target Or Each Individual Target To Send Them Back Down And Begin Another Round Of Practice Or Competition. Increased Deflection Safety: This Target Is Designed To Be Forward Leaning To Provide Safer Downward Bullet Deflection. It Also Includes Stainless Steel Stabilizing Spikes To Help Ground The Target And Provide Optimal Stability. I think it will be fun. Some dufus asked in the comment section if he could use his 300 win mag rifle on it. The "expert" remark, "I don't know what a 300 win mag is, but it's for .38-.44 cal". I got a 300 a few years ago. Damn fun rifle to shoot. I would be able to use it 3 times on that target set up Quote:

17HMR is pretty popular caliber. Savage makes an excellent rifle in this 22mag necked down to a .177
Popular enough that they now make a mag version. IIRC they had to find a rimfire that would hold more powder than a necked down 22mag. So they ended up going with some rimfire blank they use for framing nails. My cousin ran right out and bought one. He blew apart a coyote at 80 yards last month. Blew it all to hell https://www.google.com/search?q=17+r...e-gws-wiz-serp

.17HMR is really fast, but it's not that much better than .22 LR as far as impact energy though. 20gr .17 is less than 50 ft/lbf more than 31gr .22LR for what it's worth. Super Mag thumps a bit more though.

If I still lived in the country or had access to family-owned country land, perhaps I'd feel differently about .22s and other lower caliber guns. But those days are gone forever. Plinking varmints is kind of frowned upon in the suburbs.
