Time to pump some sunshine!

I'm done with the negativity and I'm tired of seeing people question Mahomes and saying Andy's lost it. In this thread I'm going to show you all that this offense and Patrick Mahomes outside of uncharacteristic turnovers is the best it's ever been.

So PFR has several stats that allow you to see how an offense is doing. The first two I want to show you are the percent of drives that result in a turnover and the percent of drives that end in a score. So far this year KC is scoring on 52.2% of it's drives which just happens to be 1st in the league. The most astonishing thing about that is the fact that we turn the ball over on 21.7% of our drives.

Now let's look at the best in the league in the scoring category and the worst in the league on the turnover category since 2007, so 14 years which should be a pretty good sample size. In that time the average of the league leaders in scoring% is 48.8. This year our scoring percent was only bested by 3 other teams in that 14 year span.

2018 Chiefs 52.6%
2016 Falcons 52.6%
2007 Patriots 52.7%

Those 3 teams TO%

2018 Chiefs 10.5%
2016 Falcons 6.3%
2007 Patriots 7.8%

The average TO% of the league leaders in scoring%

8.1%

It was only higher than 10% 4 times and was never higher than 11.5%.

The average TO% for the worst team in each year is

19.3%

The highest it ever got was in 2017 and that was 21%. The Kansas City Chiefs would have the highest TO% and 4th highest scoring% in the last 15 years if this continued. With what we know about this team under Patrick Mahomes regarding TOs and scoring, what do you think is more likely to hold up?

Maybe now you are saying well they are kicking more FGs and thats where bring up their avg drive stats. I only went back and looked at those stats during Mahomes' time as a starter, but here they are

Avg Drive Time and Rank

2018 2:44 (14)
2019 2:52 (6)
2020 3:00 (3)
2021 3:19 (1)

Plays Per Drive and Rank

2018 6.02 (11)
2019 6.18 (6)
2020 6.65 (1)
2021 7.24 (1)

Yards Per Drive and Rank

2018 39.8 (1)
2019 37 (3)
2020 40.7 (1)
2021 45.5 (1)

Points Per Drive and Rank

2018 3.12 (1)
2019 2.59 (3)
2020 2.74 (4)
2021 3.22 (1)

Teams are slowing us down and we are making them pay. Unless we turn it over. This team WILL reduce the amount of turnovers and then oh boy watch out. I don't know what PMII's MVP odds are now, but I'd put down a bet.

Will some people now stop blaming any of our suck on Patrick?

The only significant problem we have offensively is turning the ball over. People are just freaking out because it doesn't look like the -18-19-20 Chiefs; well yeah, because defenses are selling out to not allow the big play. Which we still get a few every game anyway.

I said before the season that it might look different; more efficient, less spectacular, and some of y'all roasted me for it. But other than the sudden rash of turnovers, I was right. If we don't turn the ball over, we score touchdowns on long, methodical drives.

We don't really have big offensive problems other than the turnovers.

We have HUGE defensive problems, however.

Oh we for sure have huge problems defensively. However, those problems should be at least partially negated once the turnover frenzy stops.

We are tied with the Jags for most turnovers in the league (11). That has to stop.

FFS we’re on pace to have 37 turnovers!

I have no problem with methodical, . . I'm actually quite fine with methodical.

The most concerning thing about methodical at present though, besides the increased # of plays leading to increased chances for big mistakes, is that we inevitably end up with the TD attempts coming in the shrunken confines of the red zone, which magnifies our blocking and hard running woes and removes the already schemed speed advantage at WR.

We're not going to be able to underhand bowl TDs to TEs forever.

1st and goal is a specific skillset, different from moving the ball down the remainder of the field.

Methodical, and '1st and goal' will be more promising when we get a better running threat and our blocking gels a little better.

We are 6th in the league in Red Zone TD% at 70%.

I am aware, but do you think the presnap stageplays will just get more and more intricate, or will they just continue to fool everyone every time?

Well, seeing as how it's a staple of Andy Reid's offense going back twenty years, I'd say both.

I don't know what games you're watching. We've had no issues scoring in the red zone other than turnovers. None.

Why wouldn't we be able to underhand TD's to TE's forever? All that misdirection is confusing as hell to a defense and when you only need a couple of yards that's a great way to make sure you can get it. We've also punched it in this season in short yardage situations several times; we don't really have issues running the ball when we commit to it and with the new O-line.

The fact that we make mistakes on long drives, well, yeah that's the whole reason opposing defenses are making us do it. We need to get better at not turning the ball over and be more disciplined. But it's not a problem; it's not that we "can't solve the cover 2", this team is on a historic pace and without multiple turnovers per game, we'd likely be 4-1 or 5-0 right now. Even with this equally historically shitty defense.

Offensively, we're fine. We could use a WR2. Might have one in Gordon. CEH is now two knee injuries in two years. That's probably not good. We could use some dynamism from the RB position. That's really it. Other than that, they just need to play together and clean up mistakes.

The over abundance of turnovers is an anomaly and surely will stop. Also, all the talking heads dissing Patrick and the Chiefs are just fueling Mahomes inner fire. 2-3 isn’t shit to overcome. Still 11 weeks to play, and we have the best quarterback in the league (**** off Jimmy Johnson), and he’s gonna take this shit personally. Season isn’t about how you start, it’s about how you finish. Not a qb, or team I’d take over KC/Mahomes when the playoffs start. Who else in the AFC has more playoff experience than our favorite team, the Kansas City Chiefs!
