Where do the Chiefs stand in the Division?

This hurts.

We're clearly behind LA now and probably even with Denver and Vegas.

Hopefully we make the playoffs next year. This blows.

Well, the biggest gripe by far over the years has been playoff success... and even including Mahomes' success, they're still in the bottom 3rd of the league in playoff win percentage. For decades it was "striving for mediocrity".

Chiefs, Bears, and Vikings are the 3 teams with good regular season success and terrible playoff results overall... they would have to win like 15 straight playoff games to be in the same realm as SF or NE.

No way to tell yet.

They finished with a THUD and have revamped the team.

Will they dominate?

Prolly not, but they won't be pushovers, either.

I know the Lions are the automatic go-to team for a quick joke about shit hole franchises, but I'd make the argument that the Cardinals are actually historically the biggest trash heap of failure in the NFL. At least the Lions had those championships in the 50s. The Cardinals are 10 years older than the Lions and they only have 7 more total wins as a franchise?

Also, here's a bit of trivia for ya'll: The Cardinals have been around 100+ years and have never once had a coach last longer than 5 seasons.

The Cardinals coach with the most franchise wins was Bruce Arians.

Yeah... that's some epic suck.

Yeah, we are #22 in all-time playoff win percentage.

When you consider the fact that we've been to four straight AFCCGs recently, it goes to show how truly terrible we were up until recently. We are gaining ground now, though.

Of the teams ahead of us in playoff win percentage, the Bills, Jaguars and Panthers have still never won a Super Bowl.

The 49ers, Raiders, Dolphins, Jets, Cowboys, Commanders and Bears, who are all above us in win %, haven't won a Super Bowl in 30+ years.

I'd say, when you consider everything, KC is probably a fringe top 10 NFL franchise.

You could make a strong case that the HC of the other 3 teams in our division all deserve to be fired.

Wilson trade was a huge rape job, the Adams and Chandler additions have barely helped at all and the Chargers are about to pay Herbert.

All the while the Chiefs offloaded cap, have more draft picks and are still a top team. This is still our division for as long as Veach, Andy and Patrick are here together

What changed?

Though it can be noted that the Chiefs have vastly improved in an area that they previously struggled the question of “why?” remains. The improvement is most likely due to two factors, the first being the addition of Joe Cullen, the new defensive line coach. Cullen has been coaching since 1992 and his resume includes stints with five different NFL teams. Bringing that type of experience to a position group can’t be overrated.

Secondly, the credit for the Chiefs’ success against the run should also be given to second-year linebacker Nick Bolton who has earned the starting role this year. Bolton, the former Mizzou Tiger great, is a tackling machine as last year he led all rookies and Chiefs players in tackles with 112 (72 solo and 40 assisted). He has continued his success to start the year, currently leading the Chiefs’ defense with 37 tackles (25 solo and 12 assisted).

Fans might finally be getting the chance to embrace a new reality, one in which opposing teams aren’t able to effectively run the ball, bleed the clock, and keep Patrick Mahomes off the field. The Chiefs’ success against the run in the first four weeks presents a shift toward the team becoming more complete as a whole, rather than the offense being overly relied upon as they have in the past. Though it’s doubtful they will finish the year with the best rush defense in the league, this improvement is a great step in the right direction and will ultimately help the Chiefs find success in cold weather games later in the season.

There are 14 teams with more playoff wins than KC currently. But the Chiefs are only a few good runs away from being top 5ish. There are really only 5 franchises that have separated from the pack historically. After those you have a bunch of teams that hover around .500 in the postseason.

Just checking in on this gauntlet of a division, considering the Chargers and Broncos lost today and the Raiders needed three 4th quarter touchdowns to beat a 1-win team.... and feeling a bit salty after that win.

That's how I see it now. Trading Reek was foolish. Varch is full of himself on this one. Sorry, just no silver lining for me. Hill was the best game-changer in the league. Now gone. You don't replace that.

Broncos 35%
Chiefs 30%
Chargers 25%
Raiders 10%

3. Broncos

Probably some homerism here, but the Chiefs have so thoroughly dominated this division I feel like the Chargers need to prove they can close the deal before I actually pick them. The biggest unknown is how the coaching situations play out for the Broncos and Raiders.

That leaves the Donkos bringing up the rear. So they trade away a boatload of premium draft picks, a couple nice players for an aging declining QB that’s not the same guy now and struggled behind Seattle’s awful O-Line. Now he gets to go play for . . . . . . . wait for it . . . . . . . Denver’s awful O-Line. Fascinating. A decent defense that lost their defensive wizard (yes, he sucked as a head coach), hired a rookie head coach because he was ARod’s OC and they were banking on him coming to Denver. Now they’ve invested in their pass rush and banking on Chubb and Gregory to provide the majority of the pressure, two guys that can barely stay on the field. I’m sure this will end well for them.

1. Chiefs
2. Chargers
3. Raiders
4. Broncos

Let it be said. Let it be known.
