Asking because I saw some headlines. (I mean click bait) saying it was bad. Just wanting to hear the argument from a real person, who’s a chiefs fan.
I think the contract is pretty complicated and it remains to be seen how team friendly it is but it certainly is good for both sides. I'm happy w it.

$10M signing bonus and $63M guaranteed at signing while locking himself down for 12 years. Those numbers are incredibly team-friendly.

without a doubt the first few years was designed to be incredibly team friendly. If the contract stays as is its incredibly team friendly due to inflation. Mahomes has tons of leverage to eventually make this contract pay out more for him. And nobody would fault him for it. But the beginning of the contract shows he truly understands how his cap charge affects his teammates. he is taking a pretty big risk early in the deal in order to make this team friendly.

You have to really give kudos to Leigh steinberg. I've been so impressed with him. Like when he told mahomes to take less endorsement deals early on to avoid distractions (ahem... Baker Mayfield).

I wonder how much of mahomes early part of the deal is mahomes being a good teammate and how much is steinberg pushing mahomes to stay motivated. It's a genius deal when you think about it. Mahomes gets paid huge no matter what but he has massive incentive to keep pushing for greatness, and keeping his team intact is a great way to cement his legacy very early in the contract.

Pat's new contract ensures he stays in bubble wrap when not playing football...

They have like everything from jet skiing too, I don’t know what all the things are. I read a lot of them. It’s pretty much every physical activity you could possibly do. I’ll probably be sticking with football and video games for now,” Mahomes said.

"It’s just the numbers that text me that I have zero idea who it is, and they congratulate me,” the told the radio station. “I just say, ‘thank you.’ I have no idea. I’ve given this number to somebody. Everybody from Trae Young to D-Wade to LeBron, guys in our league, Deshaun [Watson], [Drew] Brees, all these guys, everybody is congratulating me from all different sports leagues. It’s really cool to see.”

Heh.

But those article comments though. Gross.

What’s crazy is Pat will get another enormous contract when this one runs out. He will only be 36 and can surely get another 4 year deal. Unless he gets hurt, he’s going to seriously cash in making this look like nothing.

Imagine what the market will be for QB’s in 12 years

Given that he's pretty much screwing himself in the early years of the deal, the Chiefs front office better do a good job surrounding him with other players. If they fail in this, he would be well within his rights to play hardball later in the contract...such as that $60M of cash and cap hit owed in 2027.

Here's everything Mahomes can afford EVERY WEEK now.

This article from this new site called The Broken Anchor just posted an article outlining what Mahomes can buy every week for the next ten years now. It's pretty funny, everyone go check it out! I can't post the link for some reason, but it's a great article and it's at thebrokenanchor.com.
