Tell me if you want to be a man, or if you'll take on the role of either gender, and I'll roll the dice for you and assign you a real person who was on the ship.* (If you're a woman, let me know too and I can give you a female dice roll.) If you don't tell me, I'll assume you're a guy.

I'll let you know the person's name, age, origin, embarkation point, destination, passenger class if they were a passenger, and their department and job if they were on the crew. In some cases we don't know so you'll get a blank, but the information is pretty good.

Oh, and if you were a passenger your crew stuff will come back as unknown, and vice versa if you were crew. There was a small handful of people who were both passengers and crew. The ship's orchestra and the Guarantee Workers were the two groups listed in both classes. (Guarantee workers were the expert repair guys who were assigned to the maiden voyage to make repairs of anything new that was broken. They apparently didn't have expertise in major hull repairs.)

You're then welcome to look up more detail about the person if you can find it. Some of them have interesting stories.

* For some reason I'm missing a small number of people, but I've got about 98 percent of them in my database.

Your wife did survive, primarily because she wasn't on the ship, and it's a sad story.

You were an oil worker in Arabia, and she was back home in Canada. One of your four children was dying of tuberculosis, and you were coming back to comfort your distraught wife. You probably kind of made the situation worse, I'm guessing, through no fault of your own.

It's not certain but she may have recovered enough to remarry four years later. But you will always be with her in her heart, the Heart of the Ocean.

You were a 12 year-old Lebanese kid who spoke no English. Your mom and other family members had immigrated to Jacksonville (Bortles!) and now it was time for you, your father, and your 14 year-old sister to join them.

Unfortunately, dad get pink eye or something and wasn't allowed to board the ship, so he sent you and your sister on alone. Two children lost alone in the crowd, not speaking English, you went topside and were eventually gathered up by some adults and herded onto Collapsible Lifeboat C twenty minutes before the ship went down. This lifeboat was the one where there was a concerted last-ditch effort to round up women and children.

Apparently you did not enjoy this adventure and could not talk about it afterwards.

Okay, I looked it up. "Glory Hole" was the term that was used for the male crew quarters. So you were the person responsible for keeping the male crew areas in shipshape condition. That's an unusual job.

You were apparently the millionaire next door. You immigrated to the US in your 20s, had seven kids, and apparently became quite wealthy despite being listed as a laborer or farm laborer in occupation. You were thrifty on the ship as well, traveling third class as you returned home from a visit to your sister in Ireland.

(Rain man note: I kind of wonder if the 'considerable fortune' attributed to him is a mistake describing someone else with the same name. Nothing else in his bio would hint at that. But who knows?)

Interestingly, your body was recovered, but two months after the sinking. You apparently caught a current and were found over 500 miles from the sinking. Only four bodies were discovered after yours - one in the water and three in an abandoned lifeboat.
