What’s the NFL trying to draw attention from?
A week and a half ago the NFL told reporters they would have a big announcement this Tuesday. The announcement was that Colin Kaepernick would have a workout this Saturday for all teams. There are rumblings that CK didn’t set this up and the NFL did.

If true...what is the NFL trying to divert attention from?

No one is going to sign a guy who hasn't taken a snap in three years with only 7 weeks left in the season. Maybe he gets signed over the off-season, if he's physically ready, and they have months to get him up to speed in their system with their players.

Signing now would really be nothing more than a PR stunt.
