Yes the Eagles are better almost everywhere, but they will still try. And it will work against a lot of teams designed that way. It sure has for the 49ers and it certainly did for the Eagles, but we are the exception to that rule bc of Andy and Patrick.

With your allocation of $6 million at DT and a first or 2nd day pick, that's more weight than I would require as strictly necessary.

And if Jones goes down, you're just giving up on getting interior pressure with 4 (except for on pure passing downs when you probably move Omenihu in there) and instead you're using more blitzes off the edge or some odd interior stunt/blitz combos.

At that point you're going old-school and using beef in the middle while trying to be creative to generate pressure.
I surely hope Veach finds a good balance between the two worlds here. "Strictly necessary" really needs to mesh with your last statement because right now I don't think we'd be very competitive in holding the fort with our current DTs while getting creative elsewhere. Where you spend your pick at DT is directly correlated to what you do in FA at the position. If you sign more washed-up shit and then only spend a day 3 pick there and something does happen to Jones, then it's likely going to be a really rough ride.

Yeah, I think our difference in position here comes down mostly to risk tolerance. And even at that, we aren't THAT far apart; maybe a round in the draft and a few million bucks shifted one direction or another.

I recognize the chance that Jones could miss some time - I'm just more willing to accept the risk and use more capital elsewhere.

I think my approach would yield a higher ceiling but certainly a lower floor. And hell, with Mahomes under center, maybe targeting the higher floor is the smarter play.

He was real good two years ago. Real not good this year.

But he's still relatively young and the market hasn't come together for him. Hell, gimme both the Seahawks DTs from last season and I won't complain.

I'd be fine taking Ford and Woods off the street and using them to replace Williams/Saunders. Then use a draft pick to knock Nnadi's ass off the roster if the board comes together for us.
