Phobia thinks there should be a Planet Tailgate at games

Copy and pasted from another thread:

B5 is a meeting point for Planeteers, but it actually belongs to a group of people who have been tailgating together for many years - only one of whom is a Planeteer. This is why there is no ChiefsPlanet flag nor any other identifying characteristics. We *really* need to find and identify an OFFICIAL ChiefsPlanet rallying point.

The following is not so much a bitch about as it is a compliment to another group of Chiefs fans:

This weekend, I was invited to participate in another internet organization's charity events, attend their tailgate, and sit in their section at the game. ChiefsPlanet has 10x as many registered users and has been around 4x as long - yet, their participation level was quadruple anything I've ever seen with ChiefsPlanet. That is probably attributed to their leadership, because I was shocked at how organized and well done their events were.

We need to find somebody who is willing to take the tailgating ball and run with it. Hell, we could eventually even buy a ChiefsPlanet tailgating bus or something cool like that.... We have the numbers, now we just need to find the people to make it happen.
I said:

I like the planet tailgating idea. Sounds like people have a hard time finding B5. I would suggest down by where the pope/ hearst guy is by the entrace to Arrowhead in first few rows by the aisle in the "D" parking lot. It's easy to find. People can stop by on their way into the stadium.

So whats your opinion?

I think if the Planet had a site, more people would show up, its different than going to Dartgods Rig. The other thing that is needed is you need a sign in area, so when someone gets there they can sign in and be greeted by someone, then make an effort tomake them feel comfortable, they need nametags, and not with "Craig" on it, but one that has their username and real name.

just some of my thoughts
You're right on, about all of this.

I have been out a couple times and its cool its just that I never really have time to stay more than 10 or 15 mins. That isn't a really get chance to meet someone new or really even enough time for most people to know you are there. I am usually with someone else and I am like...uhhh ya I talk to these people on the internet...I dont know what they look like but I am gonna walk around yelling out names that sound weird when you actully say them out loud. I also take the bus to the games and they only get there so early. I am excited for the whole saturday shindig.

Now I'll admit I haven't been to B5 in quite some time, but I have gone there a coupla times in the past. The only sticking point for me is it's a 20 min walk. I'd love to meet some more Planet members, and everybody is welcome to come up to d12 (at the back of the lot, 'tween C&D). There's plenty of room, we get there early and stay 'til 11:30. We're usu about 10-12 peeps, so Planet members can easily be absorbed...

Just go outside and yank them out of the car circling the bar.

I think it would be a good thing. It didn't take me long to figure out that Dart God was just letting Planet members crash his party because he's a nice guy. They're kinda mellow anyway. I live in Springfield but come to almost every game so I would be good for some tailgating Sometimes we run late and barely make it for the opening kick.. But it would be nice to have a tailgate party to attend the 5 or 6 times I get to the game on time. The D & C area would be best for me as I always park on the east side of the stadium. This year I'll be a foursome for every game. Sometimes the wife and daughter and sometimes with my buddies. I would contribute something to the effort. Money or food!

Here are the problems I see with it.

This puts a lot of work on one person. There are only a select few that would be there every time, so the "host" wouldn't know if he needed to prepare for 1 or 20. Obviously there could be a "sign-up" on the planet before each game, but I'll guarantee there will be games where half the people show up, and other games where twice as many as expected show up. It also requires them to get to the gates early in the morning to get the same spot every game.

Who provides the beer and food? The best bet would be BYO, but people would show up half prepared and end up mooching off of others. No big deal for one game, but it gets spendy week after week. Simple things like plates and condiments that no one brings so the host ends up buying for an army every week.

Then there's the cooking. Say I'm hosting and fire up the grill first thing. Spend 30 minutes cooking, then a few more guys "stop by", and it starts all over again. Basically all of us "somtimes" guys are asking someone to put in a lot of time, effort, and likely money, just to set up a tourist stop for us. Guys will pull into the lot wanting to stop by, but the group they're with won't want to.

And that doesn't even address the set-up and clean-up. While you guys are pulling into the lot at your leisure, the "host" has already sat in line waiting for the gates to opena and set up the site. As you guys stroll off to the stadium, the "host" is left to clean up and put everything away. Repeat process if you tailgate post-game.

I know this from experience. I've tried to get a group from another Bboard to all tailgate at one spot. I get ten people that say they'll be there, and one shows up. So I'm left with a cooler full of meat and beer. The next time, I say everyone's welcome, but it's BYO, and everyone shows up empty handed. The "host" in me wants everyone to enjoy themselves, but it puts a big strain on the amount of fun I can have.

It's a great idea on paper. But if there isn't someone that already has this routine, it's asking a lot of them. Ideally, we need a group of guys that do this consistently regardless of who shows. Not guys that sometimes will have to miss games because of a bitchy wife or a sick kid. It's a big commitment.

I managed to locate the sign on B5 pole, walk around the parking group and locate some Chiefsplanet members at every game I went to, as well as locate another group in another lot...........all without a sign or someone shouting my name with a bullhorn and a group hug..........and without mooching from the host groups tailgate.
